Biography
DELUGE (pronunciation)

The sight makes Deluge pause. It is not the reunion she expected.
There’s quite a few of them. There are other dragons too, bustling about and building, but she can’t remember the last time she saw so many Aberrations in one place. Is this because they’re in the Plaguebringer’s domain?
Scald is next to an Aberration with vibrant green coloring. He says something, and Scald throws both her heads back in a laugh.
Deluge feels her fur bristle.
This is what Scald’s been doing? For a month, maybe more? This isn’t even her flight!
Scald calls out as she approaches. One pair of eyes doesn’t look away from Deluge for even a moment. When she’s close enough, she turns both gazes on her and greets her by name.
The green Aberration turns to Scald and, startled, opens his eyes fully. Before, they were heavy-lidded and shadowed. Now, they reveal bright irises that match his crimson tail.
“Scald,” he says - warmly! “This one - do you know her? Ah, you must, you look just alike!”
“I do.”
“Ah, but - you said you didn’t have a clan?”
Deluge tenses.
Scald remains focused on Deluge. “I don’t.”
Deluge should never have come looking for this ungrateful brat.
“Ah,” Flourish says. “Ah haha, well. Well then!”
“Deluge doesn’t either,” Scald spits. Deluge rears up, just a bit, just to remind Scald who is bigger, who is better. The younger dragon doesn’t take the hint. “No one wants-”
“In that case, she can join ours!” Flourish says.

It has been months since she last saw Scald. Usually the other dragon would come crawling back after a few weeks and pretend not to apologize. Scald never does apologize out loud, but that’s fine, Deluge can read between the lines. And it isn’t as if their last fight was especially bad. It is only appropriate to go looking. Just in case Scald got herself in some sort of danger. There’s no point going further into the depths; Scald rarely ventures even to Flotsam Town. But checking the Wharf and other shorelands finds no trace of her. After a week, Deluge allows herself a mild concern. Across sand and grass, she searches. Again and again, across the many boundaries, there is no trace of the other dragon. Asking is useless. Over and over again: “Your sister isn’t here.” And, over and over again, she says: “She’s not my sister.” When she does find Scald, the dragon is in Plague’s diseased lands - of all places! - and surrounded by other dragons. Other Aberrations. |

Before Deluge can storm over, heavy wingbeats pound above. She jerks as she looks to the sky, and no sooner does the interloper land, shaking the earth as he falls like a stone. Blooms of decayed scales and fur and dust billow up. Another Aberration. He isn’t just heavy as stone; he resembles jade as well, his green swirls soft and gentle. A bright red tail slithers behind him. His only imperfection, out of sight. “Welcome!” he greets. His mouths are twisted up in grins. Or what passes for one among their kind. “Have you come because of the rumors? We’re happy to have you. Only requirement is two heads - not necessarily two brains, ha! Not all of us are lucky enough for that-” “I’m here for someone,” she interrupts. He tilts one of his heads. “My…clanmate.” “A clan mate?” The dragon lifts a claw to his chin in contemplation. “Well, we have a lot working for us right now… Who is it you’re looking for exactly? I can-” “Flourish.” |

Both Water dragons gawk at him. He remains cheery. Thrilled with his own idiocy, apparently. “You were looking for Scald, yes?” he continues. “Here she is! And she’s planning on staying with us - aren’t you?” “Yes, but-” Scald stutters. “Wonderful! And we do need another Water dragon. Pairs are preferred, don’t you think? It’s only right you should join. We’d love to have you. I’d love to have you, and Splatter will as well. Don’t worry, once you meet her, you’ll see. And we’re so close to your homeland, you could go back to visit any time you wanted, we’re in a great location really.” Flourish wraps his claws around her at one point and, not even breaking to breathe air, chatters as he directs her further and further toward the lair being built. “Just for a few days, won’t you?” |
