Arseni Towerguard
guard

The Skydancer narrowed her eyes. “You look… familiar.” Arseni tilted her head and squinted. “Familiar.” She studied the Skydancer and decided that she, too, looked like someone she’d met before. Or perhaps they had met. “We might have met before or in another life,” Arseni suggested. “I don’t think I believe in that kind of thing,” she said with a small smile. “Come, we can figure it out. Sit down.” Arseni took a seat at the low table, placing her rock-solid pearl on the smooth boards and staring. She was a pretty thing, this Skydancer, clearly one used to being outside and working hard. Her wings reflected the sky and her body reflected the grass. “My name is Switch. What’s yours?” The Skydancer put a bowl of vegetable soup before her. “Arseni.” “Doesn’t ring any bells, but… wait a moment. Yes, it does. That’s the name of the ruins that are just over that hill over there. It’s what this estate used to be called.” Switch looked at her closely and a realization dawned in her eyes. “You know, you look… you look exactly like one of the tower gargoyles on the ruins.” Arseni shrugged, looking at the sandstone swirl on her skin and the pebble-like indentations on her skin. “Yes. Like I said. Another life. You used to explore the ruins as a child.” “And you used to be a gargoyle?” Switch chuckled. “Well, I suppose at this point I’ve seen stranger. You haven’t come to reclaim your property, have you?” “Oh, no. I don’t own anything. I only sit on the tower and watch.” |

The land now known as the Estate of Escape, watched and guarded by Moor and his family, was once owned by a family of dragons known as the Arsenis. It’s unclear where they went. Perhaps they went on a trip and never came back━a likely explanation for Wind dragons. Perhaps they had an unfortunate deal with the same being that Moor did. Whatever the case, they’re now gone. All that’s left of their castle is a crumbling ruin… and one gargoyle. In all the years between the Arsenis’ departure and that one fateful night, the only enemy known to the fortress was time. Animals and dragons passively walked through, not stealing anything for themselves or knocking over walls. The place fell apart on its own, and the place and the creatures inside seemed to be fine with that. One night, though, a gang of young Harpies, looking for something to destroy, settled on the wrong target. One of the gargoyles on the highest tower, still intact and with a bow at her side, suddenly animated and defended the place. Not a single Harpy escaped. All in all, it was a brutal beginning for the new dragon named Arseni. After cleaning up the mess, Arseni noticed some severe dilapidation in the castle on which she once perched. In search of answers, she found herself at Moor, Heather, and their family’s little homestead. The only dragon in attendance that day was Switch, Moor and Heather’s daughter, a dragon she recognized for playing in the Arseni ruins as a young dragon. They hit it off immediately, and Arseni came to an easy decision. She would do as she’d always done. Stay here, guard the land. Arseni is, indeed, a Light Pearlcatcher. Her pearl has unsurprisingly survived all these years as a stone and still retains some of a rock’s finest features. Arseni doesn’t worry about it breaking. Even though most might associate Light dragons with their quest for knowledge, there’s also a large part of Light dragons that care about presentation of that knowledge as well. Arseni is ever rearranging the stones and putting walls back together of her old castle. It will never be what it once was, but that’s not a bad thing. Some buildings are made to fall. |
MARBLE - trapped
|
Arseni holds out some hope that some of her fellow statues might one day gain consciousness. So far, no luck. Her favorite statue in the handful of those remaining is a specific column decorated with a beautiful Serthis. It has a few cracks in it, but, unlike most of the other pillars, is still whole. Arseni makes sure to keep her polished and taken-care-of just in case she should ever come to life. Arseni even has conversations with her, though she can only think to call her Marble. She hopes to one day hear from the statue herself what her real name is. |

━━ notes ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
» Arseni was eager to take the surname Towerguard for herself once she earned it.
» Even though her story sounds like that of a statue come to life, Arseni was always a Pearlcatcher. That might be a story for another time, but will put it this way for the time-being: the Arsenis were not nice dragons.
» Because she spent so long in suspended animation, the way she thinks about the world and the things she knows are no longer quite current. Her advice can still be good, for the patient listener.
