"Nothing's set in stone, but they're set in a dirt road. If you roll your wagon on the same path too much it will soon be the only path you can take without struggling."

━━━━━━━━━━━━ b i o ━━━━━━━━━━━━

Five's sole personality stems from the fact she was born as one of the few 50million hatchlings chosen as auspicious. Her entire life has been brought up to this aspect, leaving very little room for self-improvement and emotional development.

She is a scryer of the elements, having power over nearly all the gods gave her. Her main tools are a clay bowl, the dirt her Children bring her, and bits of a dragon, be it a scale, hair, or bones when the scry is particularly taxing. Her guards sort out payment, which are all donations towards her cause.

Her audience has grown from farmers to adventurers, and the more superstitous of folk drop in every time they're in her area. As such, she is incredibly busy.

When she's not in her tent, she sits at home surrounded by the bones and scales and locks of hair she's collected from her audience. Her guards, who are more often her carers, will bring her food and books or tomes to read. Tauga, her favourite, will often sit inside and talk with her, while his partner weaves another blanket to cover her blackened legs. Between her two guards, she is safe. Her reliance on them is more than emotional. With the loss of her legs' function, it is now physical.
She doesn't mind as much. Her role in life means her legs are only a slight inconvenience. Her connection to the gods' plane is her main means of transport. That, and her guards.

She was a sub-deity, a child born on an auspicious date. Her journey to these lands was spiritual, and her acceptance into the Tribe was gracious, like she was a true god.

And yet she was frightfully bored.

Her emotions were a serene mask on her face, but below the composure, below the rug placed over her lap, her fingers pulled and worried at the fraying edges. She chewed on the inside of her cheek as another dragon in the queue stepped forward. The two guards blocked his entrance, but she waved them aside.

“Your grace-”

She interrupted the aging bogsneak.
“Please do not call this one ‘your grace’, my dear. You may address your king as such. Call this one… ”

She hesitated with a name. She had never named herself before. The bogsneak ventured a guess.

“…Mother?”

She stared at him.

“Of the lands.”

“That will do. What does my child need?”

The bogsneak grinned, before prostrating. “Mother, the rains have not come for weeks now, and my crops are withering. If I do not reap the required amount before fall, the taxmen will leave me with nothing to feed my children. The wife’s just welcomed another child into our family and my coffers are low as it is.” He wasn’t grinning any more.
“Please send some rain.”

Five sighed, raising a hand to rub at her eyes. The room she was in was dusty, and the packed dirt floor left smears on her clothing, even if it meant she was closer to the elements. She peered into her clay bowl, stirring the water with a dirt smudged thumb. The dirt separated from her hands, leaving a strong image in the water.

“The rains have finished for the year. The odd squall will not feed your crops. It was an unwise move to plant cotton this year, as it has proven largely unproductive. Sell your middle child to the exalters. It is his true destiny, and all paths lead to it. Your eldest child must stay at home, for she is destined to be with you for life. Your youngest child, I do not see much of her future, so keep her at home and love her. Harvest now, at night, and you will survive the winter. Next year, plant a native grass, and you will have more luck.”
The bogsneak bowed again and gripped his hat between his hands.

“But mother, last year you told me to plant cotton.”

“Last year this one was not here. The one before would have told you. He has since served his duty. That will be all.”

The bogsneak took the lie as truth and backed away, thanking her for her wisdom.

The second one was a young mirror, looking for the courage to ask his beau’s father for her hand. In Five’s scrying bowl the red clay from his feet was poured in, turning the water red like blood. He already knew, but she could not deter him from his fate. He would be killed by the family, and the Plaguemother would take another child as her own. He bowed and left.

The third was a weeping snapper woman, carrying the bones of her sister’s child. Beastclans had attacked her farm, burning the crops, looting the village nearby and killing the children. She asked the spirits for vengeance, but Five only had her bowl. She ground a toebone into the water, and saw only ash and dirt.

“Grind the bones of your children into mix, and scatter it on your farms. Set out tubs for the rain, and slaughter a few animals and scatter the blood onto the soil. Your fellow sisters will be fertile this coming year, and your soils will reflect this as well. Lay with your men, and sow a fresh crop this year. Your next year will be a better year for all.”

“And what of the beastclans, Mother? Won’t they come back? Should the men fight?”

“No. Hire a guard, if need be, but your men are needed for other duties. To fight the clans would spell death. I cannot see into the beastclan’s futures, only what you have shown me.”

“Thankyou mother.” The snapper bound the child’s bones up and backed out, bumping into another in the line. Five peered out, noting the line had reached the door and continued.

Her claws finally pierced the worn fabric on her lap, catching the attention of one of the guards. He bent down and offered the silk off his back, which she took gratefully. Standing up, he was still again, the gentle action having only taken a second. She understood, and thanked Tauga anyway.

Today was going to be a long day.

RELATIONS -

Tauga
Friend
━━━━━━━ X ━━━━━━━━
Tauge is the stoic one of the trio. He doesn't talk much, but his actions speak more than his words. When he does speak, Five listens intently. Most of the time though, it's to his partner and not her. She doesn't mind. He's just a little awkward.

62366969.png
Kilandhi
Friend
━━━━━━━ X ━━━━━━━━
Kilandhi's shape constantly changes, but the spirit stays true. Every time a new dragon walks up to Five with his name, she welcomes Kilandhi back in. She knows whenever it's him. Kilandhi is a great conversationalist, often speaking over Tauga whenever the trio are talking.

Rue
Friend
━━━━━━━ X ━━━━━━━━
An unlikely friend, Rue will often come visit Five. It started off as a messenger's service, but when Rue's genuinity broke through Five's serenity, she tarted inviting Rue back to her humble abodes. Now, Rue will always come over with a few lovely smelling powders and unguents.
