______ Prions, strange, misfolded proteins capable of causing brain disease, have existed on Sornieth for at least as long as dragons have, probably even longer. They are very unusual pathogens, almost indestructible, and able to warp healthy proteins into infectious copies of themselves by mere contact, and all this they do without organelles, genetic material, or any of the characteristics associated with life. They are the agents behind some of the most devastating diseases, ones with no known cure, and fatality rates of 100%. Yet, no one really paid much attention to these tiny threats, largely due to their rarity. Until recently, when a new strain was discovered, one that altered not only the brains of its victims, but their entire body.

______ Amygdala is a dragon who fell victim to prions, making her a Spongiform. She is often very sickly. Her body shakes uncontrollably, and she usually has difficulty walking. She rarely speaks, and when she does, her speech is slurred, and often unintelligible. Cognitive changes and/or difficulties (personality changes, memory problems, etc.) are extremely common. Although she is typically non-threatening on her own, when under the control of an Enceph, she will attack and attempt to infect any dragon that comes near. The pale protein growths on her body are very brittle, crumbling easily when pressure is applied to them. Ingesting the resulting fragments is the most common cause of infection.
