Cruel and cold like winds on the sea Will you ever return to me? Hear my voice, sing with the tide My love will never die Over waves and deep in the blue I will give up my heart for you Ten long years, I’ll wait to go by My love will never die Come, my love be one with the sea Rule with me for eternity Drown all dreams so mercilessly And leave their souls to me Play the song you sang long ago And wherever the storm may blow You will find the key to my heart We’ll never be apart Wild and strong you can’t be contained Never bound nor ever chained Wounds you caused will never mend And you will never end Cruel and cold like winds on the sea Will you ever return to me Hear my voice sing with the tide Our love will never die |

“And when I breathed, my breath was lightning.” Her hatching was like every other. She wasn’t her parent’s first and most certainly not the last. Elysia has spent her early life learning of her various lineage connections. It was a lot to learn for a youngling but she knew what she loved. It became obvious that the siren blood ran deep within her. She enjoyed being by the sea, seeing the waves. She had a calling for adventure like her Viking ancestors; but her voice...her voice could hypnotize. When she got older, the Sea was calling for her. Instantly, she answered with open arms. She started her training. It didn’t take long for her to join a Viking crew that turned out to be the legendary Wolf Song, captained by her ancestor Ragnar. Elysia was so excited the moment she took her first steps on board. She had no idea what to expect, especially when she realized that the First Mate, Neander was of the Memento Mori Clan, similar to her Ancestors but of a different line. The pressure was on, being watched by two elders apart of her own lineage, she would never let them down. Elysia worked hard and quickly moved up in rank from cabinlass to a respected crew member. She worked under Dane and assisted him with the navigations. Frequently, she would be found along the edge of the ship late at night, listening to the waves, singing softly to herself just before retiring to bed. On occasion, Ragnar would hear her songs and smile. No one could sing like his wife, but it’s nice to see a strong trait of hers within their descendants. It was soothing when far from home. It wasn’t always calm. While out to sea, the Wolf Song got caught in a middle of a massive monsoon. Rain pelted the wood planks, the wind threatened to rip the sails, and the lightning flashing across the sky. Ragnar was barking orders, Neander and Dane pulled at the sails to tie them down, and Elysia was making sure everyone’s life ropes were secure so no one would be casted overboard. This storm seemed different to the others...there was a static in the air. All of a sudden, there was a bright flash of light and Elysia felt a searing burn before darkness once again fell. |

"A song is an emotional lightning bolt"
That was then Elysia opened her eyes to darkness...only this wasn’t the same. It wasn’t raining anymore, she wasn’t on the ship. It was as if she was transported to a different world, alone. She didn’t know whether to venture out until she started to hear the whispering. The kind of whispering you could not place the source. No matter how hard she tried, the whispers seemed to be everywhere and yet nowhere. That is until she spotted a spark of light. It was flickering almost resembling a small lightning bug. Suddenly a voice spoke out to her, almost as if in a distance. "Do you wish to live?" She was surprised but unmoved. The many whispers ceased as if in waiting. She didn’t know how to answer, the question felt so sudden. Dead? Was she dead? Did she die during the storm? She was in shock. Her mother always warned her of the Memento Mori curse, but could it be a blessing? A chance to live again? A second chance at life? Caught up in her thoughts, the spirit asked again; “Do you wish to live, Memento Mori?” She instantly was pulled out of her thoughts. Visions of her family flashed before her eyes like bolts of lightning, the crew that meant more to her than anything. "Yes." The answer was immediate, she stood tall like how Ragnar would when facing his enemies. She would not appear weak to whatever this is even if this was to be her final breath. She would make her crew proud for her bravery. "What price would you pay, young Mori?" It spoke to her as if they have met before...or was it more they have met more of her ancestors and relatives? Suddenly, she was hearing some faint singing, a song that used to lull her to sleep. A song, her mother said was pasted down through the generations, a siren’s song. "Anything." She knew this was true, it was instinctual to want to live, to cheat death. The light grew brighter, flying towards her, the form becoming a Sparkling Goblin. A mighty sign of the goddess, Stormcatcher. "Very well then. Arise Elysia, your new gift awaits.” |
It was all a blurry darkness. There was the song, she tried to turn towards it but felt a soft hand place on her shoulder, the singing stopped. It was silent, no more singing, and the storm seemed to have calmed. Everything was still, until she was finally open her eyes. It was like a flash of light! Gasps from all present was heard and she wasn’t sure if it was fear or wonder. It was then she noticed her familiar, who had curled beside her in her cot. Everyone was unsure, but Dane claimed that Stormcatcher, herself had chosen Elysia for something great. Though Neander knows of their lineage’s curse, there had yet to be one chosen by a god or goddess so it could be possible; especially when gaining the eyes of the Stormcatcher herself in more ways than one. It took a few more days to reach the Docks once again, Lorelei was there to keep Elysia company since she was the one to help heal Elysia when she was still in the spirit realm, as Neander put it. They would chat and Lorelei taught her some siren tricks for safety. Despite her eyes, the lightning cause some permanent damage to her skin and created Lichtenberg figures across her neck, back, and arms. There’s been discussions of her miracle; but she herself cannot tell if it was a Goddess’s blessings or her lineage’s curse. But she never pondered long enough for it to bother her. All that mattered was that she was alive and she can keep adventuring with her friends and family. Her incident along with her rank; her nickname became Valkyrie. A proud rank for a Viking’s Dirge and a rank of honor for any warrior. Her hard work to be strong was recognized and for that she is grateful. |

- Singing keeps her calm. She enjoys singing a trait carried down from her siren heritage. While her magic in the seductive art isn’t as strong has her purer relatives, as part Siren her singing is still powerful enough to distract fairly easily.
- She believes it was fate with the connection between her name’s meaning and how her first death occurred.

ELYSIA (Ἠλύσια): From Greek Pedion Elysion, the name of the heavenly fields of Elysia, a section of the Underworld mentioned in Greek mythology. The mythological place name may have evolved from the designation of a place, or person, struck by lightning (enelysion, enelysios); if so, the name means "lightning-struck."
