Snakeroot Veteran Mercenary 58 Cis Woman // Butch Lesbian |
OOOShe honestly thought she looked more scary than she apparently does. She thought she'd been realistic when she looked in the mirror, stared into those blood red eyes, gazed at the dark red scales, and concluded that "yeah, she looks pretty intimidating."
OOOApparently not. OOOShe doesn't know how she ended up like this. She's the Shadow of the Forest, the heralded fighter colored like the blood she's spilled. And yet, she can't get rid of all these damn youngsters. It started out with just one or two young dragons with big, hopeful eyes begging her to teach them to fight and then it just… continued. She sighs deeply and picks up her beloved battle axe, mumbles a "here's how you hold it" to the young Imperial who's just shot an arrow into the woods, 10 feet from the target. She wonders sometimes if she's gone soft. Or if it's older age making her complacent to the whims of these kids. But then again, when the Imp finally buries that arrow straight in the bullseye and she gets to sling a blood red arm around their shoulder and pump a victorious fist in the air? Something swells in her chest and tears well up in her eyes for reasons she can't quite explain. {by anteater} |
It doesn't take a set of armor to make Snakeroot intimidating.
She's not exactly the tallest Guardian, always considered to have a pretty average height, but one thing can be said about her; she's bulky. Built like a proper barbarian, even age can't take away her natural musculature. She will concede that, yes, at one time, her muscles were far more defined, but she's still got the brawn she always has (and, as some old friends like to joke, just a little bit of extra 'bulk'). She doesn't mind the teasing- everyone's changed somehow over the years- but younger mercenaries don't dare try the same, no matter how well they know the Guardian. It's more than self-preservation, really; it's out of respect. The fact of the matter is, Snakeroot can still swing her battle axe just as well as she could all those years ago, even if those years have taken a toll on her flexibility and speed; though, she never quite relied heavily on those skills in the first place. A younger Snakeroot took advantage of her distaste for "true" armor and her resulting freed scales from it to decorate her body in other ways. The symmetrical tattoos running from her chest to her tail originally lined scars, but now, even as the old scars have faded for new ones to take their places, they simply serve as a reminder. The now dark-gray ink barely shows up on her dark scales unless she's in direct sunlight, or chooses to take her (equally as brawny as usual) beastly form. She's never quite thought of adding anything or having the tattoos redone, but she doesn't regret them one bit. Especially not when she's seen some of the poorer decisions made by fellow mercenaries; at least hers actually commemorate something.
