Even in holy places, there will always be sinners. Such is the way of things in a mortal world, and approaching the matter requires patience and grace. Sinners, after all, rarely respond well to forcible correction when gentle guidance will do.
This is why the Justice of Valor named Atsu an intermediary between the Luminaries and the Lightweaver. There was no one she trusted more, she declared, no one who could be more sensible and gracious when the dark encroaches. Her level, humble bearing would be a blessing on those seeking a lifeline, a return to light.
And who was Atsu to turn down Araila, the heroine of the Thousand Sun Slaughter, the Justice of Valor, the Order Radiant's most recent and beloved prodigy? She said yes and once again swore her sacred oaths to the Lightweaver at the Shrine of the Mother, a renewal of her faith and dedication. And once that was done, she began her work.
Her days are not spent tallying the woes of her fellow Luminaries. If they were, her feathers would have all fallen out by now, or have been plucked out by her own claws. There is only so much doubt and resentment and guilt one can bear at a time, especially when those burdens arrive from many sources. To maintain her sanity, Atsu busies herself with healer's theorems, a useful way to maintain the skills that made her a sage, and a way to offer new advances to the Luminaries, should her research provide a breakthrough.
But there will always be someone in need of intercession, and at the end of the day, her greatest responsibility is between her Luminaries and the Lightweaver. She bears whatever sins they ply upon her, and offers them to the Mother for judgment. And when that judgment comes, she passes that back to the Luminary who summoned their courage to seek her guidance, be what it may.
Who, though, hears the sins of the listener? At present, it seems that no one does, not even the Lightweaver herself. And perhaps Atsu should be grateful for it. A healer's place is not among plots and poisons, especially not ones which aim themselves at the very deity a healer purports to serve.
She always is careful to wash her claws before accepting confessions in the Shrine of the Mother. The time for such impurities has not yet come.
