History
Charming, composed, and extremely intuitive. Growing up in the Sea, Kaimana is favorably more affected by the moon phases than the average Nightcaller. He instinctively knows when there will be a low tide or a high tide based on the position of the celestial bodies around Sornieth.
Kaimana came to the Starlanders many times as a teen, curious and wandering the cool seas that edge Sornieth. On one fateful occasion he stayed a few days with the clan to wait out a powerful storm. Or, at least, that was his plan. This time, something hidden drew him in and kept him; It held onto him for years. It seemed to loosen its grip only as the moon reached its fullest each month, and tighten it as her pale face hid from the sky. For months, he was in a strange state; by day hiding from the light in the library or the hub, spending his nights on the beach, seemingly afraid to touch the splashing waves. It was while he took refuge in a dark part of the cavernous library during a moonless night that Fiction, the head librarian, made the decision to piece together what was wrong.
He turned to the only thing he knew; his books. Searching and searching for some repeat incident or malady that would match Kaimanas’ fate. He would never come across what he was looking for, much less any way to free the bound dragon. Finally, after six years, Kaimana came clean.
He’d fallen in love.
Fiction was almost annoyed. Four years of trying to help Kaimana, to diagnose him, only for him to admit that he’d caught feelings? For him to explain that he hid indoors because he feared that if he went to the water, he might never return to his unrequited love? It was quite the inconvenience, to put his stories on hold for so long. In truth, however, he couldn’t deny how his heart soared when Kaimana confessed that it was Fiction who he desired most.
