Biography
不死鳥はいつも鳥であるわけではない
when evening looms, skrihrte lights candles in the main hall of rakraet. she flies up the irregular stone pillars, up to where travellers' hammocks hang, to make sure no ties are loose. she checks the protective runes on the doors and asks widget to correct what has been erased. she's not that good at magic, never was.
she arrived in rakraet last month. she has lived here forever. a stranger with a name everyone knows.
it is her fault. these distortions. she is too used to bending reality to her will, now; living properly is-- difficult. it's been too long since she's last walked the mortal plane.
she finds that she has missed it. living.
after lighting the candles, she navigates the corridors up to point rat and watches the silent forest from above. it looms on the horizon; a forbidden maze of trees grown too close together, dark and roiling in the cold winds like the ocean before a storm.
the rakraeti don't yet know that the forest is but a husk. but skrihrte knows. she's awake now, after all. there is nothing left for the forest to protect; its strange magic will fade with time. the spirits will be fine without it. probably.
she's changed. solitude doesn't bother her anymore. she thinks her eyes used to be the color of the sun at noon, but she's not quite sure. she no longer commands fire; that power she gave away, just like she let go of her grief and regret and shame---
the evening chill settles in her bones like a greeting. skrihrte takes a breath.
it is time to start anew.

:: she's not quite mortal. a phoenix never is. she sees the threads binding reality together, and has been witness to many things. has a tendency to dwell on her own bad decisions. :: gets along rather well with rakraet's resident monster population; known for engaging tercenya in staring contests that last for hours and always end in a stalemate. :: skrihrte has no interest in leadership, but in matsu's absence, she quickly becomes the one creature that nobody in rakraet wants to cross. sometimes, kirra watches her with a keen eye when he spots a movement almost too familiar, but no-- of course she's not his old friend. she can't be. (skrihrte does nothing to disabuse him of this notion). :: it's an absolute coincidence that she appeared in rakraet only after matsu and ristaya have left. more angsty phoenix starring in kirra's equally angsty backstory. |
