Biography

If there’s a secret hiding in the clan, chances are, Reyna already knows about it. A master “finder,” Reyna spends all her days (and nights!) sneaking around the lair and looking for hidden places she might use to her advantage when the hatchlings gather for a game. She is always the first to instigate a game of hide-and-seek, and always the last dragon the other hatchlings want as the seeker. This isn’t because Reyna is a bad sport; rather, it’s because she’s too good at searching. No matter which nook or cranny the other hatchlings shove themselves inside, Reyna is capable of finding them within a matter of seconds. In fact, she’s won all the games she’s ever participated in as the seeker!

Well, except for the one where Adevi wiggled into the ventilation system and then fell asleep. Being a Gaoler, Reyna was too big to squish herself into the hole, and thus wasn’t able to tag Adevi. In her defense, though, she totally knew where he was. (The snoring made it kind of obvious.) So, technically, she won that one, too.

Though hide-and-seek is fun, it’s a game that takes time and can get repetitive for the others, so Reyna finds a lot of free time in her claws when her friends aren’t up for a game. She spends this time exploring the lair and familiarizing herself with every inch, every possible hole the other hatchlings might use as a hiding place in future games. Due to this, she’s uncovered a lot of odd bits and bobs in the lair, and has also overheard secrets other dragons would prefer remain buried. (They’re lucky she’s a hatchling who knows nothing about blackmail.) Her tendency to find things hasn’t gone unnoticed in the clan, and now many dragons ask her to find their lost belongings.

Reyna is rather excited to get so many requests. It’s practice for the real thing! And some of those items can be really interesting, too, like that one time Starfall lost her blender and they found it in BlackSlime’s cauldron. Or the time all the pillows in the clan went missing, and Reyna had to go track down Mab’s newest hiding place for his hoard of fluff. That one ended in a lot of screaming as Mab then proceeded to chase Reyna around the lair, unaware that the other hatchlings were reclaiming their pillows as he did.

What’s not interesting, on the other hand, is looking for boring things. Like the time Terrell lost one of his books. For heaven’s sake, you have like six hundred of them. What makes that one so special?

Reyna is nice and enthusiastic, so she gets along well with the other hatchlings. She looks up to Socks as a leader and admires the Snapper’s perseverance in her crusade against adulting (as opposed to Primrose’s crusade against water. That’s just ridiculous.) Reyna also gets along especially well with Byrn, whose nocturnal tendencies means the Banescale hatchling spends most of his time sneaking into hidey holes and tunnels the rest of the clan don’t know about. Well, the rest of the clan minus Reyna, who tags along with Byrn for most of the night before she passes out and Byrn has to drag her back to the hatchery. Reyna is always hugely disappointed that she can’t stay up the entire night, but she’s a hatchling. And hatchlings still need sleep, no matter how invincible they think they are (looking at you, Socks).

Though Reyna is very good at seeking, the one thing she can’t seem to do is hide. As far as she’s concerned, if she can’t see you and she’s completely still, then she should be invisible to the naked eye. The fact that her colors are a bright orange-brown hasn’t convinced her in the slightest that she stands out wherever she goes like a torch in the dark. She’s constantly confused as to how her denmates find her so quickly. Surely she’s hidden herself well? She’s just as fluffy as that pillow, and she didn’t even blink while Starfall was doing the seeking. How did the Nocturne find her?

Maybe next time she’ll just duck in a bush or something. She has flowers. The bush is green. Thus, logically speaking, she can blend in with the bush and no one would be the wiser.

Now you see her.

Now you don– never mind, you still see her.
