A resident of the Freeflight City, Xantoxu has a keen interest in unusual creatures in unexplored lands. He occasionally goes out on trips into the wilderness by himself to explore. The Freeflight Clan's hunters have had to save him from uncertain situations more than once, but that has not stymied his interest. He is fond of his home in the clan though, and so his trips out are usually short jaunts, taking advantage of the Floating City's tendency to go where the winds take it. As scattered as he can be, he nonetheless takes detailed (if chickenscratch) notes on his findings.

It was on one of these trips out that he met his Styrantrum companion, Tatters. He found her wounded and separated from her herd, and (with some difficulty) brought her back to the dirigible city with him, where the healing dragons in the Medicine Balloons were able to help bring her back to health. She has since remained with him in his home.
