Penumbra

Centuries ago, Penumbra used to be a Spiral hatchling named Pine:

Pine's mother decided to take him to visit his father, a Shadow dragon who moved to his homeland soon after Pine was born. Pine eventually got lost, and attempted to find his parents, only to lose his way. After sometime, Pine was killed, and became a ghost-like creature. He spent many more years trying to find his parents.
Centuries later, during Gathering, Mirfak decided to slip away and do his own thing - searching in the Tangled Wood. While searching, he found an odd young Spiral - this Spiral's name was Penumbra. Patriot examined the Spiral, though he had to sedate him due to his unruliness, and eventually was able to conclude that Penumbra was eternally a hatchling, and was likely that way for many years.
Nobody was sure where this Spiral came from, if he had family nearby, or anything similar. Corki offered to take care of him, but Mirfak refused to let him. However, Penumbra didn't like Mirfak, and tended to spend most of his time with Corki, Jasper, and Kaja, as well as several hatchlings in the clan. When Mirfak became exiled, he took Penumbra with him. Penumbra hated having to say goodbye to his friends, but he tries to sneak away to visit them sometimes.
