Family is meant to protect you, but what would happen if family was the thing you needed to be protected from? Can you still love someone if they did horrible things? Would it really change or dirty the memories you had of them?

When you were a child, you would go out stargazing with your dad. It was one of the only times you could really get to spend much time with him. You came from a broken home and lived with your mother, which was more than fine, and you were more than happy, but you always felt a piece missing inside of you with your dad out of the picture. Stargazing with him didn't make things feel so bad.

The two of you would lay there and talk until you fell asleep, he would tell you the most amazing stories about all the adventures he went on while you stayed with your mom, like the time he found a skeleton in the woods or the time he buried something so that it would never be found again.

As you grew up your dad stopped visiting, and you didn't go out stargazing anymore, it wasn't until you were 18 that your mom sat you down to talk. Your father was a monster she said, he did very bad things to people. He had been shot down like an animal right on the spot all the skeletons were found, the spot your dad told you about all those years ago. Your father was dead.

So that night and every night after you went to the field and stargazed alone, you talked to your father as if he was still there, pretending he hadn't done all of those bad things. And when the night was quiet and all was still, you could sometimes hear him whispering back to you...
