Wildfire

Wildfire:



Ghost (familiar):
I had been with Wildfire for longer than I could remember. We had been a part of the Wolfdragon clan for our whole lives, and boy had we seen some stuff. We had seen and fought dragons covered in metal, demons in angels' skin, and many more. I didn't know life without wildfire and I didn't want to, we were best friends. I knew if it came down to it I would die fighting for him, and I almost did at one point. One day while Wildfire and I were walking through the forest we saw something I would never unsee. We watched as our close friend Kladeos shed her shimmering skin to reveal a dark red and black dragon underneath. That wasn't all though unlike Kladeos shimming skin this dragon was rotting, chunks of hide dangled from gaping wounds that were so deep you could see the dragon's bones. The thing that truly scared me was the beast's face, half was attached and fairly normal but the other half, God I would never forget the other half. It was pure bone not a single piece of meat or skin could be seen, but that wasn't all in the space where the dragon’s eye once was a glowing ember and it was staring right at us.

I turned to Wildfire to see what he wanted to do about this but he just stared in shock. The creature started moving towards us slowly, calmly, like it knew that we were too paralyzed with fear to even think about fighting back. The creature slowly got closer and closer till I could smell the stench of its rotting flesh. I watched in slow motion, unable to move as the creature opened its rotting mouth and went to take a bite out of Wildfire. No! I thought I couldn't let this happen to my best friend! I lunged towards the beast of a creature and pushed it out of the way before it could kill Wildfire. The rotting dragon and I rolled biting, clawing, doing whatever we could to injure the other. I let out a yowl of pain when the dragon's claws sank deep into my side. My noise seemed to break wildfire out of his trance because he quickly ran towards the dragon and I. The dragon didn't seem to notice that Wildfire was coming towards it, no it was coming straight for me, ready to kill. I started into the jaws of death itself hoping that Wildfire would one day forgive me for leaving him. But no, I didn't meet death that day because just in the nick of time Wildfire was able to grab the creature around its neck and pull it away from me. Before the creature had a second to react Wildfire did as he was best known for, he opened his jaws and spewed flames onto the creature. I watched as it withered in pain and slowly became dust that blew into the wind. To this day I don't know how I broke out of my trance some say it was the strength of my love for Wildfire, others just say I got lucky, but I know that I will never forget the time my best friend and I faced down death itself.
