◆ Mordred - The Betrayer ◆

Morgana’s plot would never come to fruition as long as Invictus stood. The name that would never know defeat, Solstice’s sword and shield. He, who stands in defense of the clan and Avalon herself, a being wreathed in infinite splendor and power; vigilant in defense of the sun. Thus, Mordred was conceived as a homunculus, carefully cultivated by Morgana, who raised him as her own son, wishing for him to be Invictus’ equal in combat.

Raised for the sole purpose of the mission that his ‘mother’ has entrusted to him, Mordred became the centerpiece of the plot against Solstice. He trained tirelessly and relentlessly, awaiting the day where he would meet Invictus across the battlefield, as they were fatefully destined to do. Hatred for his ‘rival’ burned in his heart, contrary to the clear mind of Invictus. Only one could emerge victorious as the undefeated, the one worthy of bearing the sword that Avalon embodies,

And the fateful battle would come, as prophecy would have it. As the sunset began, Mordred would join Invictus as a supposed ally, intending to strike when the other came to perceive him as a friend. Yet, the veil of deceit could not block out the truth. At the climax of that battle called Camlann, Invictus turned as Mordred raised his weapon to strike, and pierced his heart with a spear of light.

Even though they had fought bitterly amid the bodies of countless fallen, Invictus remained standing, stalwart and dignified, even as he bore witness to Mordred’s final moments. While dying, Mordred confessed to Invictus, who pitied him immensely. Alone, Invictus went on to uncover the plot behind Mordred's conception, and prepared himself to defend the clan, always readying himself to confront Morgana with his own hands.

Quote:
I was brought into existence
By the lonely schemer’s will
To be your blackened, hidden rival
Against whom your sword would fail

I was brought into existence
And knew you’d been born of the same
But you were always shining above me
While few dragons knew my name

Loneliness, shadows, desolate soul
From her desire, I was born
Morgana, Morgana, that fading hope
Tell me - how do you find heart to cope

Scheming, war cries, smog, and flame
I heard you first when you spoke my name
Cold steel, vengeance, souls that fall
In the darkness I heard your call

And I saw in you a brilliant fighter
Striking as the sun’s golden shine
And the world could not hope to stand
Before your sword or mine

And even in the heat of battle, I saw
That your mind was cool and clear
That even bound in bitter combat
In you resided no sliver of fear

Cold heart, treason, tragedy
Betraying your trust was my destiny
Your glory, your grace, your victory
Were burned into my last, fading memory

Dying confession, with words that shake
I told you the unfairness of my fate
How she didn’t care if I lived or died
After all, I was just a tool in her eyes

And my legacy will be forgotten
For no one brings justice to a traitor’s grave
And even if it is, in the future
They will only seek to blacken my name

And you will never understand my torment
It was better you laid my life low
So that my darkness will never taint you
And you will never know the desolate cold

My legacy will be forgotten, I say
For we were never quite the same
You’ve always been victorious
But I doubt you’ve ever felt my pain.
