WIP Lore Notes

Once a grand imperial who was imprisoned by ice due to some terrible crime. While imprisoned he served the Gaolers and worked towards penance and redemption. It was during this time that his name became "Villain" as none of the Gaolers would use his real name.

As the seekers were reinstated he was selected by a small and secretive group for an arcane experiment - they had received several magical scrolls and were attempting to inscribe the nature of their own kind upon them. Though their operation was not known beyond their secretive clan.

They succeeded in using this new magic to transform Villain into one of their kind, and the following day, he was given a special task - to find and secure a prison which had been disrupted in the Scarred Wasteland and to make sure its occupant was recaptured and secure.

He was selected for this as both a wind dragon and one more familiar with the outside world, meaning he could travel quickly and easily across Sorneith and track down the escaped prisoner.

As he searched for the broken prison, he discovered several prophecies relating to it, and when he arrived at the Scarwind Keep to speak with the Bloodsinger queen, his actions resulted in Volamina the Traitor being discovered...

Instead of having her killed, the Queen had her brother use his own magic to transfigure her into a Gaoler, and then bound her to guard it and ensure it could not escape, and she could not betray them again.

Villain, seeing a dragon with a past like himself, went to her to try and comfort and help her, and took her as a mate, and swore to share her burden of guarding the prisoner.

During his search, he also managed to both infiltrate and escape the thawed depths. He proposed better ways to manage the prison, and this being the second time Majka had failed, she was stripped of her rank and favor in the clan. However, her in-depth knowledge of the prison and lower levels meant she could never be allowed to leave, so she was turned over to the King's keeping.

Now Villain and Volamina guard the prison and the Eyebite.

When Villain learned of the strife caused by Ayna's secret order, and how she and the order failed to keep the prison secure, he decided to denounce them. While he is dedicated to keeping the prison secure, he does not do it on behalf of any leader or organization, but to ensure the safety of the world at large.

The Thawed Depths may now be devoid of ice, but Villain keeps them well secure nonetheless.

The wind which sweeps through the ancient tunnels and darkened chambers creates ghostly music, and it stirs the blood chimes hung throughout, bolstering the queen's powerful magics and wards.

The Thawed Depths
Once there was a prison below the Rotrock Rim where the Clan of Singing Blood made its lair.

It was a place where blood did not flow. It was far too cold for that. Still, you could hear blood singing, as the frozen halls of the White Prison were decorated with chimes of crystallized blood. It was little sliver of the Icewarden's domain in the heart of the Scarred Wasteland. This place was Ayna's domain. She was the keeper of the White Prison serving as the Clan's Warden, guarding over the strangest and most dangerous of the clan's enemies. Her true purpose, however, was just as much to keep the Queen out as the prisoners in. When this was discovered she was expelled from the White Prison.

Once the wardens of Ice were removed and the elemental forces of Ice were withdrawn, the breached prison began to thaw. The White Prison became the Thawed Depths. Majka was brought in to secure the prisoners previously encased in ice.

She did this for a long time, keeping at bay the things which the Icewarden had buried there in some unknown past, and trapping the unfortunate newcomers brought to her domain for various crimes and dire transgressions. It was thought to be secure, but then the Gaoler Villain arrived, and broke into the prison, slipping past her both in, and out again. Although Villain did no harm during his visit, he proved that Majka was unfit to guard the prison, and the Queen named Villain the new Warden.

Villain is old, but does not say how old. He considers the day he was transformed into a gaoler to be his true date of birth.
