Biography
Though Essovius was born, and resides in, the Plaguebringer's domain, he is a well traveled dragon. A nomad at heart, who could not suffer to be tied down permanently. Though he currently calls this clan his home, he would certainly be pleased to travel again. If you would like him to visit your lair, and add to his lore, please ask! You can also find more like him in the "Dragons Off To See The World" thread, here. Essovius was having a good start to his adventure, that is, until he met the twins. They seemed sweet at first, two young imperials far from home, but soon he learned their sweetness was a disguise. Heaven and Nevaeh sure knew how to cause trouble. After having stolen a number of valuable objects from various stops they stayed at, they found themselves in a strange ruined city.
Soon after their arrival, he discovered a group of dragons traveling through the ruins. Seeing his chance to escape, he left the twins with them and quickly left. Leaving the ruins proved to be difficult, but with the help of a friendly coatl named Morpheus, he was able to make his exit. The two coatls decided to travel together for the time being.
Ess and Morpheus next traveled to the Hewn City. Although they had heard a lot of the Realm of the Light, it didn’t appeal to them much. The dragons in the lair they found there were from the Ice lands, and were rigid and firm in their rules; the pair didn’t like feeling as outsiders. The lair they stopped by gave them food and a good few nights rest to recover but it wasn’t long before they were back on their journey.
~ Petall (#256252), Let There Be Light
At some point, Ess had to leave Morpheus to keep his own personal journey. It was sad, but needed... On the other hand, he was compelled to keep an eye on this klutzy nocturne lady that couldn't follow a path if her life was on the line.
Isabel getting lost wasn't a chance... it was a certainty. She got lost so many times he didn't believe when he first heard of it... until he saw it for himself. It gave him chills to imagine the troubles she could get herself into, so he decided to keep an eye on her and try and take her on his journey.... At least it wasn't too difficult, since nocturnes like to mirror whoever they are talking to anyway... the real problem was keeping her in sight.
~ Kiraage
Essovius chose to travel on alone after that. The coatl had simply had enough of keeping an eye out for other dragons for a while. Perhaps getting back to his roots would help.
That was how he found himself back in the Scarred Wasteland. Not just the feted waters of the Contagion, but the dry lifeless heat of the Abiding Boneyard. The moist air turned quickly to searing dryness at the edge of the contagion, and it was a a little trading post there that Essovius decided that braving the sands alone would be a death sentence. Too many dragons had wandered in and never returned.
Debating his point further with the leader, Essovius soon realised that this was no supply train; it was a group of nomads. Raiders, perhaps. "This isn't a merchant caravan," growled the blue dragon, "this is my family." She gestured widely to the group of hardened dragons and feral-looking mirrors. They hadn't really even looked his way, but he could feel their wary attention on him.
This was made even more apparent as a previously unseen mirror uncoiled herself from between Skyheart's huge wings and jumped to the ground with a low growl. The ridgeback lowered her head, allowing the mirror to rub cat-like against her slender neck before stalking towards Essovius. She was covered in scars, even missing an eye, but he had hardly seen a more predatory gaze. She stalked toward him with barred fangs, apparently intending to run him off.
"Ravage?" The concern that laced the ridgeback's question made his blood run cold. In the moment he hadn't considered the larger dragon at all. As surely as he would eventually have been outmatched by the battle-hardened pack leader, the ridgeback may well have just ripped him in half for wounding her mate. But the mirror responded with cackling laughter, not rage.
"This one is strong," she praised, "he will survive the Boneyard fine."
He glanced between the two of them with confusion. The mirror didn't speak further, simply returning to perch on the larger dragon's back. The ridgeback just huffed and jerked her head towards the loose circle of tents and wagons. She walked away without a word, and Essovius followed. He had been accepted.
The coatl couldn't help but smile. It was good to return to his roots. Eventually, he would be ready to returned to more civilized parts of the continent, but perhaps he would spend a few months traveling with the nomads first.
