Backstory
The lab was a blinding white, every surface immaculate and sterile. Blue LEDs reflected off every bench, every wall and gave the lab a surreal aura. The scientists spoke in hushed tones, wary of their sponsor's presence. They were close, and he wanted to witness their success, or their failure. The head scientist exchanged a glance with his assistant, they were ready. He approached the man who funded years of their research. The man who was now silent and menacing, observing their every movement. Sweat dripped down the assistant's brow, despite the artificially cool air. With a nod, they had their permission. It was now or never. Approaching the capsule, they shuddered and gathering their resolve, began the complex process of activating the advanced machinery.
After a few moments of weighted silence, the white covering slid back to reveal a glass dome. And the bright colors of the small bundle was stark against the plain room. Noone dared to breathe. Bright blue eyes opened and stared out at them.
They had done it.
A Dragon.
//
Baelie had no childhood. She was used for experiments, her altered body an object of fascination to the project. There was an unrelenting stream of injections, of poking and prodding. Until one day, she had nearly given up, her small body was broken, more fake than real. That was when FL/GHT came. They raided the lab that had been a prison all of her short life. She was bundled away, smuggled through their lines of intelligence, her presence a danger to all those who aided her. She gained her strength, the world new and terrifying.
As she grew, she knew that she wanted to help. The memories of the lab were seared into her mind, everything they did to her. Yet she remembered what helped, which drugs eased the pain, and which caused it. So one day she approached the leadership, requesting a position with the medics. And after much deliberation, they allowed her to commence training.
