Aza hatched in a sleepy little clan in the Everbloom Gardens. While the rest of her family was happy with life in the quiet forest, she always wanted more, to go new places, see new people, do new things. As soon as she was old enough, she began to tag along with her father on his hunting trips, but Aza didn't find hunting much more interesting than being at home. Sure, she was somewhere new, but that was boring if all she could do there was sit silently in the forest for hours. However, she continued to go with him, each time hoping it would be one of the rare days when they would meet another hunting party, or even better, stop at a nearby clan for a meal.

One day Aza saw a group of traders passing by her parents' lair, and knew in some indescribable way that she needed to follow them. She packed a bag with her favourite possessions, beautiful wing ornaments her mother had told her she'd grow into, the journal with an owlcat embossed on the front that her father had given her, a book of urban legends she'd read until it began to fall apart, and (slightly guiltily, thinking she should be old enough to leave it behind), the worn and moth-eaten mith doll she'd slept with since hatching. Aza was prepared to beg her parents to let her go, but her father recognised the pull of the Search. He simply made her promise to be safe, and gave her a waterskin, a package of preserved food, and a small pouch of treasure and precious stones for bartering with.

As prepared as she thought she ever would be, Aza turned away from everything she'd ever known and leapt into the sky to follow the pull inside her. Although she'd never left the Viridian Labyrinth, she knew that somewhere out there she would find a world full of people she'd never met before and could get to know, and amongst them she would eventually meet the Charge that she could feel pulling her. {by duskghost}
