The beautiful coral that grows interrupted within the Sea of a Thousand Currents has recently become greatly endangered with the combination of the Tidelord's disappearance and the sudden changes in weather.
With constant threats looming above and below, some of the more resilient branches have, with the aid of sporadic pockets of magic, become sentient. When not focused on spreading and repopulating their treasured home, they'll do whatever they must to keep it safe. Contrary to their brilliant-colored hides, those that live in the Fishspine Coral are excellent with sneak attacks, as many intruders don't notice their initial approach. The part of the coral that Ushe originates from, Dragonhorn Coral, suffered severe bleaching damage, and thus the pieces that became sentient clearly show this with their markings. Ushe are born without the ability to use magic, perhaps as an aftereffect from the trauma, and thus heavily rely on whatever physical upper hand they can get. They're powerful, excellent swimmers, and their claws are tipped with a potent venom that attacks the recipient's eyesight. Most that're infected don't regain the use of their eyes, and the lucky ones that manage to don't regain their full sight. A peculiar, permanent aftereffect of one infected with their venom is that, if they survive, they gain the same Smirch markings, but it's much more faint. The current rumor floating around is that the ones that survive have been marked so the Ushe can easily find them later and finish what they started. |
