Biography
»[Uiro]«
Treasure Hunter
Crumbling Woes • "she/her"
"Does this one look round enough...?"
» credit: Xemriss (#44020)
After her mother, Betu, rejected and destroyed her pearl for being less than perfect, Uiro herself became worried - and, eventually, obsessed - over perfection. She spent most of her early life without a pearl - a Pearlcatcher's one pride, and now she spends the rest of her adulthood searching for the perfect replacement.
Uiro is a treasure hunter with no shame over raiding old Flight vaults and abandoned buildings. She leaves the historical, dusty relics, however, because she only wants the valuables and things without flaws. Everything she collects will at least be of some worth in her eyes. If it's too broken, she tosses it aside. She will settle for no less and, if it's not "perfect", she doesn't want it.
Of course, a treasure hunter still needs to bring food to the table, so once in a while, she'll begrudgingly hunt on request from historians and archivists seeking artifacts for study and display.
Many of them don't agree with how haphazardly she handles the fragile vases or crumbly scrolls, but she remains reliable enough. The artifacts more or less remain in one piece, save for a small bit or two.
At the end of the day, no matter how many valuables Uiro steals and polishes up for her shelves, she feels nothing but emptiness as she gazes upon her collection.
»[Lore: Crumbling Woes]«
Benek, due to his professions as a tomb raider and archaeologist, is frequently on the move. He's extremely strict and paranoid, and tends to be emotionally distant and oblivious to others' wants and needs. Being obsessed with greed leads him to unintentionally putting all other duties on the back burner and disappearing for weeks at at time without communicating his whereabouts to anyone (even Betu).
He doesn't see the point of confiding in anyone, nor is interested in affiliating with any clan. What if they get wind of his discoveries? He agrees to nest with Betu solely to keep her busy, and isn't aware or curious of what actually happens to his offspring since he disappears for so long between clutches.
Betu, arguably just as emotionally cold as her mate, is on an quest to replace her broken pearl, which happened while she enacted her escape from a prison during a bad snowstorm in the Icefields. Her quest is the only reason tying her to Benek; she doesn't truly care for him or his work, and his disappearances are a welcome relief.
When her hatchlings regurgitate their new pearls, she immediately takes and closely inspects them. If she considers one to be 'perfect', she keeps it for herself, but if the pearl doesn't meet her standards she destroys it. She doesn't care about the hatchlings themselves since she abandons them at the first chance she gets, either with other dragons or left to fend for themselves in the wild.
The hatchlings' lives tend to be quite the struggle if they're able to survive.
