Tired of working as a consultant and cursebreaker in Eidolon city, Kai has moved back to her childhood home of Hollowtown, hoping for a slower-paced lifestyle. She is quite nostalgic for the local museum, where she first worked after graduating from her town's small (and singular) university. She hopes to find a job at one of the new excavation sites opening up in Eidolon's notorious Desert Way.

Her strange, perhaps even terrifying, appearance is the result of a curse attack by another student while she was studying for her degree. Luckily, professors and medics were able to remove the portions which inflicted physical pain. However, the unfortunate cosmetic effects of the curse could not be fully reverted. While she was urged to seek out experts for a full cure, her financial situation at the time made that option impossible.

The incident was one of the largest scandals that had happened in Hollowtown for many years and as such, it was heavily publicized.

 		Despite some ambiguity regarding the possibility of 'stolen research', this worked out in Kai's favour, as most of the cursebreaking world knows of it by now and employers do not consider it as a slight against her abilities. She has now been living with it long enough that she considers it simply another facet of herself.
