━━ story ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“I don’t care who started it; I’m gonna finish it!”

The sound of laughter reached JJ’s ears, sarcasm just about dripping from the dusty air around them. JJ turned his Icy eyes toward Falco, and gave half a nod. “I wouldn’t put it that way, but correct, nevertheless.”

“For gods’ sake.” Falco rolled his eyes. “These peace talks aren’t going to help anything, you know? Nobody wants peace, okay? They want advantage.”

Falco would only see advantage as the opposite of peace, as the opposite of fair. JJ didn’t respond. He didn’t care about advantage. He didn’t even care about peace.

“They struck first, is all I’m saying.”

“And all I’m saying is, I don’t care.” He could feel the suddenly (and misplaced) righteous fury in Falco about to unleash in a flurry of shouting. “To take vengeance for hurts done is just as wrong as to strike first. In the end, everyone must pay. It’s all beings’ greatest fault that they believe they know justice.”

“And you do?” Falco challenged, still bristling.

“At least I think about it.”

“Alright, I’m going to go ahead and throw stop you right there.” Lightning suddenly placed her wing between them, perhaps to stop Falco’s lunge. She looked pointedly at JJ. “Look, I don’t have high hopes for this talk today. The Talonok are pretty unreasonable, but we have bigger problems now. There are Emperors and monsters, and gods are missing.” She peeked over her wing at Falco. “And he’s right. Vengeance and justice aren’t the same thing.”

JJ could see Falco’s response, but he still felt the indignation. A moment later, Falco muttered, “But what if it’s all we have?”

Justice is a Spirit Gate Skydancer, a direct descendant of the Alpha, Justice. In fact, names aside, Justice is just like his father in just about every way. Like his father before him, his opaline markings are an indication of the strongest trait of his soul━an indication of their personality. Dragons familiar with Spirit Gate Skydancers can tell whether caution is necessary from these markings and, with Justice, caution is always necessary.

Justice’s half-brother Vengeance is once such dragon that should encounter with caution. From the time of his hatching, little Justice heard the tales of Vengeance’s horrible deeds, and felt a righteous fire in his soul. To the little Skydancer, exile was not enough for such terrible actions. True justice would be done, and he would see to it personally if he had to.

Justice is the Heir to the Spirit Gate Alpha, and he takes his role seriously. Naturally, as a son of Justice, he is quite preoccupied with justice. However, his mother, Patience, brought on a new understanding of what justice could be. In order to become a well-rounded and true successor, Justice left his family and home clan to travel the world. As his soul required, he became a mediator, among other things, with the Tempest Chase. JJ, as he’s called, has no sympathy, and no interest in excuses. Crime, law, and time may change; but justice is justice.

Some in the Tempest Chase consider JJ pretentious and narcissistic━he always believes in his intuition for justice and cannot be easily swayed. He doesn’t care what happened before, he only cares that each action is repaid and in full. To JJ, justice is not malleable, made to suit the individual or situation: it is only made to suit the action. He has little time for dragons and their excuses.

JJ seems miserable to some dragons, as he has quite a pessimistic outlook on life and dragonkind, but nothing could be further from the truth. Nothing makes JJ happier than the distribution of justice. He enjoys his job mediating between dragons and beastclans alike and prides himself on his unbiased view. Though his overarching goal is seeing justice done to Vengeance, he is willing to wait. Justice has no expiration date.

JJ’s constant companion is his Brilliant Psywurm, Kyle. Like JJ, Kyle has a strong sense of justice, and he helps JJ much in the way that Scribbles helps Tomo. Kyle is an excellent note taker and listener, and his photographic memory has come into play more than once in their work together. They enjoy one another’s company and question the opinions and motives of dragons, though they both agree wholeheartedly that neither really matters. The only thing they seem to argue about is which type of tea is really the best.

━━ notes ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
» Even though his father and namesake is far away from his travels with the Tempest Chase, Justice Spiritgate, Junior, most of the dragons in the Chase call him JJ. Short for, of course, Justice Junior. He’s not much a fan of it, but he knows they mean it only in affection.
»
» Justice is a mediator, but that doesn’t mean he cannot fight. JJ is surprisingly strong. Any attacks against him personally are ill-advised. Sometimes justice doesn't wait.
