Belle

Belle was not ejected from gaoler society, nor did she drift away, but instead she actively rejected it. Just like the winds of her place of birth, she is free spirited and cannot easily be pinned down.

Named as a Seeker, Belle excelled in the practical aspects of her training, but was constantly disciplined for insubordination. Frustrated by her fellow gaolers' slavish devotion to ancient social mores, she decided to leave and find her own way in the world.

Her gaoler instincts are still strong, and even though she no longer considers herself part of the highly structured gaoler society, she nevertheless periodically patrols for the Shade, and even sets out on occasional long journeys to hunt down creatures that might threaten Sornieth. However, her highest loyalty is to the family she has chosen and the lair she lives in, not to the gaoler society she was born into.

She and Biche were drawn together over their lack of immediate family and their inability to fit in with the strictures of gaoler life. Long before they considered one another as possible mates, they considered one another closer than family, and it was only natural that they should seek out other gaolers who had struggled as they had with the expectations placed upon them. It was Belle who first made contact with the Mystics, discovering at last a group of modern dragons who understood them instantly and easily, and who could help them in their dealings with the confusing world outside gaoler society.
