Her opposite stared into her eyes, their gaze piercing, unfaltering. Doroa met their eyes. A shiver ran down her spines when she saw the icy determination. But she would not yield. Abandoning her charge had never been an option. She raised her chin proudly, tensed her muscles ever so slightly. “The knowledge you seek I will not grant you”, she repeated, her voice echoing from the walls of the cave. “And if you intend to take it with force, so be it. Then death shall seal my lips forever.”

Doroa has an almost regal air about her. When she enters a room, dragons turn towards her. When she speaks, others fall silent. It is not that she is loud or demanding. It is that in every word she voices, one can hear great wisdom and calm. Doroa does not say what does not need to be said. Whenever she speaks, her words are chosen carefully, hitting a mark, conveying exactly what her opposite has to know. Nothing more, nothing less.

Her carefulness is not unfounded. Over the many years of her life, Doroa has grown increasingly suspicious of others. She knows that every dragon she crosses paths with has their own motive, their own agenda. Some are good and align with her own… and some oppose it. She has learned not to be scared when she faces an opponent. She will not falter or flee, but instead meet any challenger with calm. Doroa is open for discussion and compromise, but there are some things she will never agree with… and even die in the worst case.

One of these things concerns her charge. Like every guardian, Doroa had found herself something worthy of her protection. In her case, it is not a place or a being. Doroa protects knowledge. Some is simple, like cooking recipes, some is ancient and dangerous. The markings on her wings are an archive only she can read, moving and expanding as she herself continues to learn. She is one of the last dragons to know the teachings of magic long-gone, and there is not a single soul in Sornieth that can convince her to reveal what she knows.

Background

Doroa hatched from an egg in the Tangled Woods, far from most dragons’ clans. She grew up alone with her mother, but her path was very different from that of most guardians. Instead of searching her charge, she was born into it. Her mother carried ancient knowledge with her, knowledge that was as old as Sornieth itself. Ever since Doroa’s childhood, she knew that one day, she would be the protector of said knowledge, saving it from being forgotten, but keeping it from those that must not know.

But in contrast to her mother, Doroa did not choose solitude to follow this duty. When her mother passed and handed the responsibility to her, she left behind the small cabin in the woods and ventured out, aiming to not only preserve but to grow the treasure she had received. She joined a magician’s academy, learning the modern magic, only to find that it was only a minor reflection of what knowledge she carried. So she travelled on, meeting scholars and magicians, travelling to places of history most have never heard of. Eventually, she met Tyrael, the very first ancient she had ever laid eyes on. Doroa could not help but be fascinated and started following him, hoping to learn more about the world she was too young to know. Over time, more and more gifted dragons joined them, slowly growing into what is now the Aether Weavers.
