Catchy phrase here!

━━━━━━━━━━━━ b i o ━━━━━━━━━━━━

Fire as your sword and words as your shield, you travel far from home in search for ever more gold. What is your shape but that of a dragon? Ever shifting, ever changing, you travel from land to land in search of that precious metal. But be careful, for gold does not shine with its own light. Reflect the light of others, for with them will you find the warmth you so sorely lack. Sharp-toned and sharp-worded, you cut down others in your obsession, attempt to control it but it has you in its hooks. Claws scrape against the shine of your hoard as you whisper but one word: Mine.

In her time as a treasure hunter, Hawke had received many special requests from her clients. “Retrieve this accursed artifact from that purported temple of doom” was a common one. Or “Speak only to this dragon. If he says anything different from the prearranged signal, run.” — “Wait beneath the oak tree at midnight. Deposit the artifact there.” — “To claim your reward, flap your wings twice and hoot like an owl...”

This request gave her pause, though. “A quest log?” she asked the client incredulously.

“Yes,” the Fae droned. “Not just the relic, but also the ruins, are of great significance to my clan. Finding dragons willing to explore them is difficult. Any information you bring back would be very helpful to us.”

“There’d better be an extra bounty for this, Lenore.” Hawke tossed her inky mane. “Stopping to jot down journal entries will really cramp my style.”

“You will be suitably rewarded for your efforts,” Lenore assured her. Her fins remained rock-steady, and even with her Skydancer senses, Hawke found it difficult to guess what the Fae was thinking.

Still, it was an interesting proposition. She leaned forward. “Right—what ‘suitable reward’ d’you mean?”

My initial observations are that...this place is a mess! Looks more like some addled Longneck burrow instead of an academy for Earth mages. Some murals and carvings on the walls, under all the dirt and moss. Could be worth a fortune if they were excised from the surrounding rock and restored.

Have been using the maps, but a lot of sections just don’t match up, probably due to the magic backlash that caused the ruins to be abandoned (and get ruined) in the first place. Looks like it rearranged some of the corridors and rooms. Will sketch own maps to cross-reference with pre-existing ones. (Copies of maps available on request, for an extra fee.)

Looks like I’ll be here longer than expected. Pretty interesting how the magic’s affected some passageways, but fortunately they don’t change while my back’s turned (or at least they haven’t yet). Still, I recommend that travelers pack enough for five days’ stay down here instead of the three advised by locals. Just scrap locals’ advice, gods

Also recommend bringing lots of weapons and spells just straight-up hiring mercs. Plenty of beasties down here. Novices, steer clear!

What a row! Should’ve known those overlarge Corpse Cleaners were food for bigger, uglier mobs. Really hate those bats. I can’t take them seriously even when they’re as big as centaurs; they still squeak like mice. Took me only about 15 mins. to deal with them, then the rest flapped away and I hurled the wings of their flockmates after them. See how they like it!

Pitfall trap. Or just decayed floor/sinkhole? Landbound dragons beware, but everyone else should be fine.

- - -
Time elapsed: 5:19
Some sort of smoke bomb. Magenta clouds everywhere. It’s sticking to my scales. Gross.

- - -
Time elapsed: 5:27
Darts flying out of a wall. This is getting ridiculous.

Time elapsed: 5:40
Found a framed portrait of some old professor. He looks like a stuffy old bag. Someone’s doodled on his face with ink. Ha ha!

Or he might be someone’s dead relative, I don’t know.

- - -
Time elapsed: 6:16
Found a rusty chest and smashed it open. Nothing inside except for some sloppy stuff and a few coins. Probably some poor college student’s savings and dirty laundry uuuugh

Rooms are getting bigger, but connecting passageways are also smaller and more damaged. Do not recommend that large breeds come this way. Going to need engineers to organize recovery efforts, get beams to prop up the place and clear away the junk.

Time elapsed: 7:20
Encountered one of those phantom types, a huge, shambling, gloppy undead mess with plenty of claws and teeth. It kept crawling after me and howling “Guuuuuhhhhh!!” Took me a while to get rid of it, I had to bash it in the face about 200 times. I was about to scream “Why won’t you die?!” and then I remembered it’s already dead. These things are unfair. At least it’s deader now.

Time elapsed: 7:36
Found the inner sanctum! No protective enchantments or traps, so have set up some minor explosive spells and am waiting for them to blow the door open.

Success! Door’s not too damaged either. Could be sold to the right collector for the right price. Now let’s see what

~ ~ ~
Hawke stopped writing and peered beyond the doorway. The room was a mess. Furniture and papers lay scattered everywhere, blanketing heaps of cloth and bones. The poor researchers, perhaps, whose faulty spells had killed them. Hawke spared them only a passing glance, however, before focusing on the relic.

The Greatwyrm’s Eye. A huge orb, maybe a foot in diameter. It wasn’t just one gem but many, the delicate veins crisscrossing like iris patterns. The Earth mages had also inlaid it with runes and filigree in precious metals.

Hawke lifted it. It was beautifully beguiling....No wonder these dragons had been intent on enhancing it with magic. And now their descendants were awaiting its return....

But Hawke didn’t move.

She remembered her quest: slogging along dilapidated tunnels, braving monsters and traps. Her promised reward was substantial—but now it paled next to the trials she’d faced, not to mention the final prize.

”Will they come after me? Probably not; other adventurers have disappeared. But I’d have to make a new identity for myself. So troublesome. What to do, what to do...”

She looked at the prize already in her grasp, weighing it against the now-paltry rewards promised to her. She admired it, and she wondered....
