"I'd rather try 100 things and not stand out in any of them than do just one thing and die of boredom." Clever | Curious | Carefree |

Maaras took his time, allowing his gaze to wander across the book covers in the Rose Spar's library. Many he had read already, but there were still enough that poked his curiosity. Whatever Maaras found fascinating, he took from the shelf, giving it a closer look. Then, he put it on a large heap of books on the ground. It took Maaras hours to finish the shelf and build his pile. His heartbeat quickened in anticipation as he looked at the 37 books he had chosen. What topic should he learn about today?
Personality
|
Maaras curiosity knows no limits. No matter what area, no matter how complex or extensive, Maaras will do everything in his power to learn more about any topic he encounters. He learns from books, but also is not above pestering experts until his thirst for knowledge is sated. Some dragons in the clan refer to his mind as a deep hole that is never filled, but unlike in a hole, the knowledge Maaras hoards is not lost. He can easily retrieve most of what he learned in the blink of an eye, an ability that leaves most dragons speechless… including his parents, which is no easy feat. Whether Maaras sinks deep into a topic or quickly jumps from one thing to the next seems to be totally up to chance. Sometimes, he will bury himself in a single book for weeks, creating careful notes about all the different facets of the topic. Sometimes, he will visit 20 topics a day, starting a project before quickly giving up again and starting the next. Maaras himself cannot explain when exactly he feels the urge to dive deeper into something, but he doesn’t really care. He wants to keep his thinking sharp and his mind challenged. Aside from his curiosity and cleverness, Maaras has another trait about him that stands out and regularly worries his mother sick: his carelessness. In his cave, he will set up experiments to try out the things he read on his own. Alchemy keeps piquing his interest again and again, but not so much recreating the known recipes. No, it’s Maaras ambition to discover the unknown. If his experiments end in explosions, this is only a fair price to pay for knowledge. |
Background
Maaras was born as the second child of Auriga and Pearlfeather. While he knows of the story surrounding his lost sister, he never met her in person. Still, it influenced his life in his childhood as he grew up protected and sheltered. Early on, he discovered his knack for science and his thirst for new things. Ever since then, his parents and the other members of the Rose Spar helped him satisfy this endless hunger of his, sometimes more, sometimes less willingly. Maaras still has not found the role he wants to take in the clan, but there is no rush for him. For now, he dabbles in alchemy and other sciences and helps out where needed. |
