Biography
Necromancer
Personality
There is no other way to put this - Naerys is an arrogant creature. She believes that she is both gifted and talented, but for all that she is full of herself, Naerys also works hard to earn this belief. If she sees another Necromancer doing well or excelling at something, she is compelled to push herself until she proves that anything they can do, she can do better.Coupled with this arrogance, however, is a compassion for others. While she may think herself better than others, she also believes that it’s her duty as such to use her power and skill for the benefit of others. This has led her to struggle with the most basic of Necromancer abilities - that of infection - as she is loathe to cause another creature harm unless absolutely necessary. It does make her excel at pulling infection and plague from others. Naerys can be a bit naive at times. Her high self-opinion makes it easy to manipulate her into menial or even dangerous tasks, never once thinking that perhaps she’s being given these tasks to get her out of the way or keep her busy. Such as the tasks of investigating Wraiths and their rumors capabilities. |
Cloaks
A symbol of authority, deception, sacrifice, uniformity, devotion, and service. Necromancers bearing cloaks often serve as priests to their clans. They are first and foremost disciples of Plaguebringer and will insist that her tenets and decrees are followed to the letter. They guide the day-to-day spiritual practices of the clan and ensure all members are baptized with the latest plague. |
Sigils
A symbol of plague and Plaguebringer's will, power, and control. These Necromancers are most often found outside the Plaguelands, bearing plague and plague gospel to other flights. They serve as ambassadors, diplomats, and counselors to those dragons that are sympathetic to Plaguebringer's doctrine. Sometimes they are welcomed in; sometimes they make their own welcome. Within the Plaguelands Necromancers often wear sigils along with other Necromantic symbols in order to reinforce their status and their role, either because their position in the clan is still shaky or because subtlety just isn't their thing. |
Jewelry
A symbol of privilege, divinity, blessing, and right to rule. Necromancers bearing jewelry are often the most accomplished of the Necromancers and leaders among their own kind. A Necromancer who takes jewels or jewelry as their symbol will be under intense scrutiny from the larger Necromantic community and must have the skills or arrogance to carry it off. Jewelry symbology is also conflated with color and gemstone symbology. |
History
Naerys was born in the Sunbeam Ruins, but she was brought up amid the glowing fungi of the Whispering Grove. Both of her parents were Necromancers of different Flights - her father from Ice and her mother from Nature. She has always been keenly aware of these facts, not necessarily seeing them as something that lifts her above others, but something that grants her a better understanding of the balance between elements and Flights. Having such a diverse background, she also feels she’s been exposed to more of the world at large than many other dragons her age. With both parents being Necromancer - and an older brother already making a name for himself as a Neutralization specialist - she felt it was only a part of her natural heritage that she become one, as well. Neither pushed her towards this goal, however, and in fact tried to gently dissuade their daughter with warnings of the difficulties she faced, and the consequences of failure. Far from convincing her not take the Trials, it only further encouraged her. Naerys knew she was more than capable of handling the Trials, no matter how difficult or dangerous they might be. As soon as she was deemed old enough, Naerys left her home - her parents alongside - for the Scarred Wasteland, and the Wyrmwound. No matter how well prepared a dragon is when they undergo the Trails of Necromancy, they are difficult. Naerys had never before felt such pain or weakness as she did during the Trial of Survival. The Trial of Infection was easy enough - she just had to wait for the disease to come to her. Once it did, her body felt as though it were slowly rotting while she yet lived. But no matter how bad it got, she was determined to master the disease. It was the third trial, the Trial of Contagion, that she nearly failed. Having returned successful in the first two Trials, Naerys was confidant that the third would prove the same. The worst of it was over, all that was left was to prove her prowess, and she would be declared a Necromancer. The quaking familiar before her - the Fungi Sage that was to be hers once she succeeded - was bound to prevent him from escaping. Her heart went out to him, knowing full well the pain she was to bring him. Still, it was necessary if she was to be named Necromancer. She reached out to infect - Nothing. She tried again. Nothing.

The Journey Begins |

space space Fearing, for perhaps the first time in her life, that she might fail, Naerys dug deep and in a panic, tried a third time. She nearly killed the poor Fungi Sage before she reclaimed her head and pulled the infection back - proving beyond a doubt that she was, indeed, worthy. While her familiar recovered - not so much from the illness, but from the shock of going from healthy to deathly ill to healthy again in the span of a few moments - Naerys decided to explore her surroundings. She had been too excited to take much of the Wyrmwound in when she first arrived, and was eager to see the birthplace of the Necromancers. It was then that she came across him - a Virulent Ghoul driven to madness from the disease he had failed to master. Naerys was too surprised to try to stealthily escape, and the Ghoul spotted her. Her terror was only matched by her compassion - after all, it had only been recently that she, too, was suffering from the disease. In blind desperation, Naerys attempted something not even experienced Necromancers tried - Neutralizing a Ghoul. It was the purest of luck that she succeeded - that she wasn’t killed simply for the attempt or by the Ghoul charging her. When Naerys returned, the newly-Neutralized Ghoul in tow, she was immediately brought before the small council. Rather than a rightly deserved reprimand, Naerys was instead praised by a representative of the small council, and given a task. She was to investigate these rumors circulating of Wraiths wielding strange and unknown powers. Naerys set out immediately, accompanied only the the Ghoul she had Neutralized. She hunts down rumors of Wraiths wandering the Abiding Boneyard, having heard of the presence of at least one from the Necromancer assigned to the Wardens of the Rotrock Rim. |
