Biography
||Glasswind||They/She||Mage, Clairvoyant, Advisor||Bi||
Glasswind was born in an incredibly insular clan tucked on the fringes of the Crystalspine Reaches. Though they loved their family dearly, and had a good life overall, their heart stirred and their soul called for more. So, they set to exploring the territory of their patron - the Arcanist - and kept an eye on the sea and sky and land for signs, confident that the god would show her that everything was going to be okay. Unfortunately, all she could catch glimpses of were visions of darkness, death, despair. All they felt they could do was to keep wandering, suffering visions of stars being swallowed at night. Lead by nothing but their instincts, Glasswind found herself back on the Crystalspines, but in a very different place. It was not the finely-hewn lair that she was accustomed to with her birth clan, but something new - something unpredictable. Though she had encountered many a clan on her travels, Glasswind found herself frozen by the shore, tail swishing in agitation in the water as she looked for a sign. She was then approached by a mirror dragon, adorned with glittering apparel and holding herself with power. She spoke to Glasswind in a smooth way, inquiring as to why they were there. Glasswind, finding themselves scrutinized by a stranger, stuttered something about finding themselves, when the mirror caught the spines lining Glasswind's back. She introduced herself as Bernadette, and insisted that Glasswind come in for a meal or two. Glasswind felt at ease with the mirror - she had an equal ambition to them, despite being older, and claimed to be in service of the Arcanist as well. With only a little bit of convincing, Glasswind agreed to be Bernadette's personal scryer and oracle, telling the mirror any possible outcomes of her endeavors. The imperial is also now undergoing training with Jupiter, the eccentric consort of Bernadette. They love their new home, and love their peers even more - but the more signs they pick out for Bernadette, the more uneasy they become about their new clan's intentions. They send letters to their old clan, hoping to gain advice from their elders, but so far there has been no response. Upon conversing with Violyss and Yula, Glasswind suspects that this is intentional sabotage by Bernadette, who continues to act motherly, but they cannot know for certain. |
This dragon is a member of the Arcane flight subspecies Crystalspines and meets the color and genetic criteria set forth by that flight. The colors and genes of this subspecies symbolize the crystalline ocean water and rocky pink spires of the Crystalspine Reaches. |
BEHAVIOR {easygoing} {empathetic} {clairvoyant} These dragons tend to be healers and counselors, particularly good at consoling homesick dragons and helping them to find a sense of peace and calm through sage advice - although all individuals of this type are not necessarily friendly. Their personalities tend to take after the turbulent seas, and vary just as much. Some who are magically-inclined may be able to show visions of change to their friends in their reflective, glassy parts of their scales. In the colors of the sea reflected there, how far you can see on the horizon might be a good indicator of how far into the future they can guide you (clear skies means a further horizon; but on a steely, foggy day, one’s focus should stay on the immediate future). Those close to Crystalspines may note that the tint of their hides tends to change just below the surface, like the reflection of a storm brewing, depending on their individual emotions - a bit like a chameleon, although more subtle. In a way this can often be a disadvantage, as it makes it very difficult for Crystalspines to hide their true feelings, and they often get into trouble with friends and clanmates for quite literally wearing their hearts on their sleeves. Of course, such talents require study to hone, as any other Arcane arts may. Some Crystalspines born into their native clans may have the privilege of being surrounded by scholars who can help them achieve their full potential, passing down tales and texts to help them learn the history and craft of their type, how to induce and control the visions they give, and the best way to give comfort to friends in emotional turmoil. Yet others may remain completely indifferent to such studies and, like the many currents of the sea, simply choose their own path, which their counterparts are encouraged to support nonetheless. Some clans consisting of Crystalspines are known to be intensely exclusive and religious, while yet others are the complete opposite. Ironically, and somewhat unlike the typical Arcane bunch, a common platitude among Crystalspines is, “knowing nothing is often a virtue,” meant to dissuade others not from seeking knowledge as a whole, but from looking for too many answers outside of their own hearts, leading to brash decisions. They will often be the first to admit such glimpses tend to be incomplete, and can be interpreted in many ways depending on one’s viewpoint. |
LORE Dragons originating from the Crystalspine Reaches whose physical characteristics seem to mimic their home territory. The crystalline blues represent the seas, where they meet the bright-pink shores and cliffs of the Arcane landscapes, represented in the pink areas of their bodies and spines on their backs. Their physical presence often can often strike a sense of calm nostalgia into those who also spent their time as a hatchling on the Crystalspine shores. These dragons are said to descend from a culture of Arcane acolytes once revered as oracles (and it’s true that to this day, a significant number of Crystalspines do tend to choose a life of exaltation with respect to Arcane divination and magics - though not all). In past times they lived in small groups who devoted their lives to divination and the Arcanist, some who even claimed not just to be able to see through time on the astral plane, but to travel through it on the physical one. Proof of whether these claims were true has long since been lost, and it’s become widely accepted that it was more than likely a myth conflated from their ‘fortune-telling’ abilities. In more recent times the Crystalspines have become much less devout to their craft and live in many different groups and clans along the sea, pursuing their own individual studies alongside their traditional ones, and not necessarily keeping in touch with one another, although sometimes large congregations will meet for ancient holidays or particularly troubling matters (such as weather disasters and food shortages). Most Crystalspines will extend hospitality and any care they can provide to weary and downtrodden dragons. |
