Biography
__._ |
In Kasaiwari lore, a very successful general named Taisho no Raikou perished on the fields on battle. Legends say he was blessed by a Raijū, a lightning yokai, giving him glorious glowing cyan eyes and the ability to set his weapons alight with thunder. A little over two decades ago, lightning strikes a lone egg. It would have been the youngest son of a welder from Sekaino and a warrior from Kazemori. Instead, Taisho no Raikou stirs, reborn anew. Kind of. His name is Uyesugi Azuchi, but everyone calls him Chidori. If the lightning strike on his unborn self didn't make it clear, his prodigal levels of knowledge in warfare certainly did. He was certainly a serious little thing, with eyes as old as the dirt beneath his feet, speaking with a childish lisp as he offered very astute advice on wielding of swords and spears. It was seen as a lucky sign, at the tail end of the Yokai War, to have this reincarnation to bolster the ranks. In desperate times, men and woman may ignore their moral scruples in order to win. Such was the case to field a very literal child in the middle of a deadly conflict. This did not last long- word swiftly made it's way to the Tenkubashi Palace, where the Solar Empress Kaede did not like it very much at all. A child barely above knee height, wielding a blade and cutting down foes? The Wen resisted this, having dominion over Chidori's home province of Sekaino. As such, Chidori remained on the field until the war ended, where he was handed off to the Tenkubashi and instead made retainer to the young prince, Chiyotairyu. Retainer is somewhat of a misnomer, however. It was in name only, as Kaede did not expect a child to teach her son the art of war- that being said, Chidori took his post very seriously. Chiyotairyu did not, instead treating his retainer and teacher as a close friend; the first Chidori had ever had. Not many children want to play with the strange cyan-eyed boy, and adults treat him with respect and trepidation (and the occasional scoffing). Chidori grew up as a palace attendant, privileged but expected to work hard in return. And although one can certainly debate just how much of him is Taisho no Raikou, there was a hunger inside him- still is. A hunger to learn, to grow, to reach and surpass and delve into the void. There are a few things outside of that which interest him. Pottery, for one, and a crush on his liege's younger brother, Moyasukami. He never acted upon this, of course, swayed away by Chiyo's not-so-subtle threatening of anyone who got too close to his adored baby brother. His life took an unexpected turn when Chiyotairyu ran away from his arranged marriage. Chidori was deeply hurt as he was caught entirely unaware; Chiyo hadn't told him a thing. It was to protect him, ultimately, but the wound was big and wide. Chidori was left without a prince to protect. Whilst he wanted to move and protect Moyasukami, he was unwilling to tread on Min-seok's toes for the two of them were quite close. At a loss as for what to do, he took up training with Kikue, the head of palace security, and began to train as a guard. Even if he disagreed with Chiyo's choice, his loyalty was always unshakable. When Moyasukami disappeared to live with Chiyotairyu, he was joined in his training by Minseok. The two of them had always been friends, but this experience left them with a bond that could not be broken. When they weren't taking up Kikue's spare time and being trained by her, the two of them begun to discuss joining the Tenshi instead, the spiritual warriors who protect Kasaiwari from the yokai. It was something, or perhaps the only thing, that could distract Chidori from his quiet bloodlust that could never quite be slaked. Wielding a naginata tipped with a seven-branched prong able to crackle with lightning, Chidori etched out a name for himself as he tried desperately to find his place, his meaning. The question could never be answered, however. Even now as an established tenshi member, and his liege allowed to come and go in Kasaiwari as he pleases, Chidori still feels a hole inside his heart. He doesn't know if it's because of who he is at heart, the infamous general, or if the boy whose future was already set yearns for something outside the bounds. He's the picture of a good retainer, always standing with perfect posture and a calm, if mildly judgemental, look on his face. He tends to speak in short punctuated sentences and his wit is as dry as a bone, to the point that it can be hard to tell if he's joking or not. On the inside he is, at times, a boiling cauldron of emotion that he refuses to touch. The only people who've been able to get him to let his hair done is Chiyo and Min-seok; with Min-seok, the two work as a near perfect pair. They work together on missions, with Min-seok's brute strength backed up by Chidori's lightning fast, precise strikes. In and outside of combat he is disciplined, strong, and obedient. He can come off as prickly to strangers, and tends to hold everyone at arm's length, afraid not only of himself but of the hurt others might inflict upon him. | ___ |
