Quote:
Born to Plague and yet touched by the sun, Malaria is a creature of blood and fever, sickly-warm and eerily familiar. No fear, no shame, a proud Necromancer... so why does she hide her face?

“Why do you hide your face?” comes the voice of her patient, an elder Snapper whose weak immune system made her susceptible to the fever.

Malaris glances down at the old drake, then casts her gaze back to where she had been drawing out the sickness. “You do not want to know,” she replies.

The old Snapper scoffs. “Child, if I ask you a question that means I want an answer. So tell me, why do you hide your face?”

Malaria doesn’t reply, merely finishes drawing the illness from her patient. When she has finished, she lifts a claw and begins to remove her mask.

Her face is covered by heavy scarring, her left eye milky white from where it was blinded. She gazes down at the Snapper’s startled face.

“There are risks,” she says, the scars tightening as her mouth moves. “To serving the Necromancer trials. I am not ashamed of my scars, but it does tend to make others uncomfortable – particularly those not from the Wastelands.” She replaces her mask in a smooth, practiced motion and looks down to the Snapper. Not unkindly, she adds, “Our Mother requires sacrifice, sometimes. It is my pleasure to serve Her.”
