Ashen

His birth on the first day of the Flameforger's Festival was no accident, nor was the place he was found.

Any Clan may boast speakers for the Gods, and they have indeed trickled in as the Clan of the Forest Wyrm grows. Ashen was the first of those, found new-hatched in the scar of a wildfire. Even with Soleil's mighty magics at her disposal, Sarekhan was unable to protect her beloved forest entirely, and the fire laid a black spear near her glade. After it died down, she walked its borders, surveying the ashes.

Under a charred and fallen trunk, she saw a flicker of flame-blue. Thinking it a spark, she rushed forward to blow it out. Instead, she blew ash from the head of a tiny Mirror hatchling, who blinked his four eyes and yowled in protest. His hide was as ash-speckled as charred bark, and he fanned smoke-banded wings, in perfect health to spite his dangerous bed.

From that day, Ashen was guaranteed a place. Soleil was still in the forest, and Sarekhan took the hatchling to him, to return to the Clan's comfortable nest and be raised as the speaker for the Flamecaller.

It was some months after Ashen had attained his adulthood that Adiemus came tearing back in with a pair of eggs, touched by the frost and in danger of death. The first cracked to hatch Huldrekarl, the Icewarden's representative; the second, Ashen still broods, together with the Ice-dragon.

Though Huldrekarl rarely speaks and Ashen is a quick, mercurial sort, they have developed an odd friendship. More often than not, the Ice-dragon can be found in Ashen's warm lair, and their companionship, the love of Fire and Ice, has become almost a proverb among the Clan.

During his second Flameforger's Festival, Ashen unexpectedly received the blessings of the Flamecaller - and was remade as a Coatl. His new affinity for the element he's always held dear is a constant source of joy. Though some dragons may turn a curious eye on him for his predominantly grey colors, he remains as hale as ever, and his blue flame-streaks as vivid as they were the day he was found.

Perhaps this new warmth will finally hatch the egg he broods...
