Personality
A proud and regal dragon, Nerium seems at first glance ill-suited to the position of Necroservus. However, her pride is tied not just to herself, but to the Necromancer to whom she serves. Whether she truly believes the ideals espoused by Caratacus or not, she is steadfast in her loyalty - and in the belief that none could serve him better.Part of this loyalty may stem from Caratacus' insistence that the blessed Mother chose this path for her - that she had not, in fact, failed. Instead, she is firm in the belief that the Mother believed she would best serve by - how else? - serving. It took time for her to come to terms with the notion, but she clings to it like a lifeline. And will suffer none but herself to serve the Necromancer to gave her this hope.

History
Nerium had always been a proud creature. The Scarred Wasteland was a harsh, unforgiving environment, and she took great pride in the fact that she had survived it's plagues and dangers. Not only did she survive, but managed to thrive. How else was she to prove herself better suited, than to become the closest thing to nobility the Wasteland had to offer? So she set forth to take the Trials. For nearly a fortnight, she waited in meditation by the Wyrmwound for Plaguebringer to acknowledge her ambition. It was bestowed upon her, and for the next ten days, she fought to contain it. Succeeding the first two Trials, she thought the third was hers to conquer as well. But such was not to be. She failed in her third Trial, being relegated to little more than a Necroservus. Nerium rejected the notion. How could she fail? She couldn't see that she had succeeded better than a Ghoul. Instead, she saw her failure to recall the diseases she inflicted as a failure entirely. Despair threatened to consume her. It was a chance encounter with a strange Necromancer that saved her. Caratacus counseled her, offering gentle words of wisdom. She had not failed, he claimed. Rather, the Plague Mother saw for her a different path, as she does for all who have been blessed with her plagues. Only those who leave the Wyrmwound untouched have failed, and even then, he believes only that the Mother chose them not for her service. At first, Nerium could not accept his beliefs anymore than she could her own perceived failures. But, over time, she came to accept them, even cling to them. After all, if the Mother chose her to be a Necroservus, then she had not failed at all. Instead, she was charged with a more difficult path, and as a dragon born to Plague, was that not preferable than the easy one a Necromancer might claim? And what better Necromancer to serve, than the one who had saved her from her own despair? It was nearly as devastating a blow as when she was unable to recall the plague when Caratacus declined to allow her to travel with him. His path, he told her, was a long and dangerous one, that took him far from the Scarred Wasteland. Better she wait here for another more suited to her needs. Nerium is stubborn, in her own way. She decided that while he might not need a Servus in his travels, he would certainly need one when he made his sojourn back to the Council itself, as he must being a councilor of his rank. So she remained behind, to make his homecoming a welcome one. She has been joined by a Wraith, Vulnificus, another whose life was uplifted by Caratacus. |
