MISSING LIGHTS

______ Throughout Sornieth there have been stories of events - dark and chilling And worst of all, unexplained. Letters dug out from ancient tombs, images made by various beastclans, witnesses to the occurrence, and yet there is still no culprit, no definite answer. How can there be so much, yet so little, barely anything of substance at all?

______ A light in the night sky, a common star. A dragon watching it, recording the sky every night, mapping the vast unknown, monitoring the Shade movement. In his records, unlike the starts that slowly lose their brightness, Asmira, the brightest star of its constellation, disappeared overnight. A remnant of Shade passed in front of it, as they often do, but as it passed, the star was gone. Shade had devoured the beacon. It was the first and last record of the event during his work of producing the star charts. It is said it drove him insane.

______ An eclipse recorded by one of the beastclans was unnerving occurrence, happening just as they worshiped the Shade. Their best offerings of food and jewels bared at the altar, bones of their enemies below it. Their shaman reading the bones, an ancient tradition of their, to foresee the events in the near future, hoping it will help them not just survive, but thrive. As bones settled after being tossed, the shaman shrieked of light being devoured, the worlds beyond their own turning lifeless. The clan went to war with another, to spill more blood, to appease the endless blackness. New lands and new riches were taken, won and sacrificed to the altar. And yet, the eclipse came. And it passed, their sun untouched, warmth remained. And yet, during the night, in the sky, another beacon was extinguished.

OBSERVATIONS

______ Dear diary, Shih joined our clan today. She seems nice and friendly, but I cannot stop thinking of how fake her bearing seems, her smiles don't quite reach her eyes, and I feel like her every word is carefully calculated, crafted to blend in. I also seem to be the only one of such an opinion. We shall have to wait and see, and oh how I hope I'm wrong.

______ Dear diary, it turns out Shih is fairly closely related to Naomi. Yes, that Naomi. Great, she can join her cousins, she fits right in, being all weird. The others still think her warm and friendly, but sometimes, when our eyes meet, I can see something sinister underneath. I thought it was due to her being from the shadow, but it's more, so much more and yet, as if there's nothing in there at all. So very cold, like she's detached from this very plane. I cannot explain it. But usually, her eyes find that lively gleam the very next day. I really don't know, it's creepy. She's creepy.

______ Dear diary, I wonder, tonight, if I will see the sunrise. I was right, I still am - Shih is not of this world, or at least, not completely. I witnessed her form losing known Skydancer shape, twisting into dark smoke, growing teeth where they shouldn't be. She stood there for a bit before she, now a formless entity went flying up and above. I followed her with my eyes as far as I could, but she went even higher than I could gaze after. So I just looked into the general direction, hoping to spot anything different, scoffing at myself thinking I'm just dreaming at that point. So just as I started turning, I got that feeling and glanced over my shoulder to find that smoke back at the ground, orbiting around a bright light which pulsated so much energy... It was amazing, the power that leaked from it like it could bring life if it was left long enough. I woke from my daze as I watched entity gaining Shihs form as it devoured the light, mouth closing as the brightness faded before the jaw snapped closed and Shih was nothing more than a Skydancer again, a sparkle in her eye returned.

______ Stargazer's real name was unknown, but Shih didn't bother to find out. What was important was that he was one of the descendants of the dragon that recorded her eating the stars while he looked at the night sky. Seeing as he was very unwilling to share history of his family even with his lover, Shih was content to conclude that indeed it drove the ancestor mad. She shall have her fun, and depending on how it goes with this Stargazer, she might be tempted to see his insanity in person.
It has happened, in his madness she delighted. Once proud dragon, now broken, has picked up a few pieces left of himself, and has left to serve a deity that will never betray him.

______ An ancient bloodline, older than her own. A mate that knows her, sees her, and delights as she does, in horror and gore that she causes. This one she will keep, and will never let go, as she also sees him as he does her - worthy of attention, worthy of praise and power. He indulges her, and she encourages it, devouring the sky, and sharing the aftertaste, mocking her previous mate, and enjoying the suffering they know it causes.
