Biography
Named Izel after the Nahuatl name meaning "Unique."
XXXIzel Shifter of Shapes |
The sun was beating down harshly in the lands of the Arcane flight. Many dragons had to seek refuge in their lairs just to avoid the sweltering heat while others spent the day submerged in the cool waters surrounding the Starfall Isles. Those that simply could not find a way to keep cool risked being cooked alive. The worst part was that no one had expected this sort of weather. It was early Autumn after all, and such extreme conditions during this time were usually unheard of!
It was during this time that a nest was due to hatch. A very worried mother sat beside her clutch of tiny floating purple orbs that she had laid in late Summer, while the father perched at the entrance to their tree sap nest. The two of them, both delicate, long necked dragons with the wings as fragile as a butterfly, were understandably worried. It was too hot. Far too hot for eggs. They knew not if they could keep the nest cool enough to avoid their unborn babies baking in their shells. Already the hatchlings had passed their hatch date. It would be a miracle at this point for any of them to emerge. But just as the worried parents were settling down to rest that horribly warm evening, trying to comfort each other over what they were sure was the death of their entire clutch, one of the little purple eggs began to tremble and vibrate. Both mother and father lifted their heads and raised their frills in excitement, looking over to watch the miracle of life begin. The shell began to crackle down the center, and from there the cracks splintered off in different directions until finally a small chunk was pushed free, exposing two tiny, moist frills attached to a itty bitty head. The two were overjoyed. Their first child of this clutch had been born, despite all the odds. The tiny creature writhed and wriggled about in the gently floating egg until it had managed to work itself free. he heat of the evening quickly dried off the egg juices on her dark hide. Unable to contain their excitement, the two parents rushed over, embracing and hugging their child. They would name her Izel to remember the day. The day where they could have so easily jinxed themselves and lost the entire nest. One by one, the others would begin to hatch. Three tiny dragons, all of which had been born with dark scales, had managed to escape their shells safely. They all appeared happy and healthy. Rumors began to circulate in their birth clan. They said that the babies came out dark because they had been roasting in the heat before they were born. Whether or not these rumors were true was unknown. All that mattered was that Izel and her siblings had survived and were now happily enjoying their life. As they grew, so did their personalities. Izel was fascinated with the life around the Starfall Isles. Though tiny, she'd spend most of her time out and about and would always wander close to the crystal pools, despite her parents' warnings of how dangerous the area was. Her curiosity kept her going while luck kept her safe. All the time she spent studying the creatures of her home land only made her more curious about the beasts of elsewhere! There was so much to learn and so much to see. Her siblings would often tease her, saying things like "You should go live with the animals since you like them so much!" or "Maybe one day you'll turn into one of those fish!" But.. Instead of being upset by these words, they made little Izel wonder if such things were possible. Could she live with the creatures of Starfall Isle and be accepted by them? Could she turn into one of them?! These thoughts caused Izel to take up other forms of study. She'd read through tablets and old papers, learning all she could about biology and the magics of the world. The more she took in about magics and spells, the more her dark hide began to change. Pinkish markings started to shine through her coal scales in an almost runic pattern. Each day the markings were more and more visible until finally her body was covered in rose colored runes and patterns. She was full of knowledge of magics, and her tiny body was making this known. No longer was she being teased for her curiosity, but now was being asked questions and advice about spells and wildlife. During one of her study outings, Izel had come across one of the many birds of the Isles. She had learned their boundaries and how to safely approach without being attacked. After all, one of those birds could eat her whole if she wasn't careful! But this bird had no intention on making a meal out of the tiny dragon. It allowed her much closer than normal, even to the point of letting Izel lay a tiny hand upon one of its strange crystals that had become part of the bird's body. Never before had the little dragon been able to TOUCH one of these creatures without it being put under magically-induced sleep or being dead. It was thrilling. Izel was filled with so much excitement and wonder. Her mind was racing and her energies were surging. Even her rose colored runes were giving off a soft pulsating glow. It was at that moment that her entire form became engulfed in a bright pink aura. But Izel was not scared. She didn't even seem to notice it! It was almost as if the little dragon was in a trance. Her body began to warp, bones shifting into different places and crackling as they changed size, her innards, muscles and skin stretching and expanding along with the changes. The large bird watched silently as Izel's small fragile body became something much larger. When the bright aura of pink dissipated, all that remained was a bird... A beautiful pink bird with large rose colored crystals and feathers! The two stared at each other in confusion and wonder. Izel was no longer a dragon! She had become the very creature that had allowed her to touch it! Without hesitation, she'd spread her crystalized wings and gave them a flap, amazed at how similar it felt to her own wings flapping before she had changed. Instead of just watching and studying, she could now learn by BEING this creature! She had to tell the others. But... That was when it struck her. What if she could not turn back? What if she was stuck as this beautiful bird forever? Despite her excitement, she really didn't want to stay like this. Her wings lowered and eyes widened as she pondered the thought of having to live life forever as a bird creature and having to leave her friends and family behind. Panic began to set in, and as it did, her pink crystals burst into a bright brilliant glow. Once again, her form began to shift and change. At the end of the sudden shift of form, she was left in that of her original. She was her tiny dragon self again! From then on out, Izel continued to practice the strange, and mostly unknown, art of shapeshifting. Through her knowledge of the wildlife and magics, she had stumbled upon a wonderful gift. For the time being she would stick to changing into creatures that she had seen all her life in the Starfall Isles. Every shift of form taught her more and more about how it worked. Perhaps soon she would master the art of shape-shifting! |
