Biography

Ignis > Marduk > Lisara > Me

Go, then. There are other worlds than these.

There was a time where he had a name. It was a good name, he can recall, something that fit his younger days, the soft innocence of his youth. He can remember it, but it's like listening through static; all he is now is Undying. Ambition. He can remember the ambition, too, the way it burned in his veins. His father was a stalwart man, with a burning desire to understand the worlds beyond the realm of Sornieth; the Undying one can remember his father's voice, shaking in the moonlight, as they stared at the result of an experiment. He was so young, then, but his father didn't mind youth at all. He can remember the way his father wailed in excitement at the twitch in the leg of a mouse. A breakthrough.

Melquist, whatever his name had been back then, had been both terrified and excited. What was this mad new power that he and his father had found?

But this was the rub of being an Imperial. The drive in him to find his charge had been sated, as the mouse rose to its paws and gazed at the both of them; the boy's father struck, trying to kill the mouse so that they could use it again. The boy struck back, snarling, declaring that these undead things were meant to be protected. Father and son fought, there, and the truth of events can be found at the old battle-site, the old skull long mossed over.

In the combat, the boy's name had been seared away by his father's magic. His appearance had changed, too, twisted from what it had once been; strange shapes formed across his scales. His father had branded him, in those precarious moments.

The Undying one traveled, then. He had no other choice. His father had made a point, and made his point across youthful scales. The Imperial wandered, listless, raising small things as he could, but the small forms could not stay the course (so to speak) for very long. Each time they collapsed back into bones and flesh, Undying felt a pang of failure in his chest. It was not his fault. It was not his fault! He had not been able to learn how to properly sustain the flame of life.

But he learned, over time.

Days of wandering turned to months, turned to years. Half-starved and convinced his own death could not be far ahead, the Undying one (unaware of his immortality) staggered into a cave and there found a skeletal Ridgeback, pinned in her armor; a warrior-queen. He raised her, using his magic to give her life again. It was her words that alerted him to the truth of his new life; he could not die. Now, that he had raised a dragon as opposed to a small creature, neither could she.

So they traveled, and he dabbled in his magics, because it was how things ought to be. The Undying one lives his hermit-life with his new companion, and slowly builds an army of warrior-skeletons, because they are the charges he is meant to guard. Even the small mice he still raises, however, are protected.
