Biography

SnowySky

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."

SnowySky is the clan's messenger, a job of great importance. He not only carries messages and packages personally, but he also takes care of the clan's messenger birds. Messengers for Wind clans carry a special symbolic significance. The messenger birds they take care of are considered sacred to the Windsinger, as is the delivery of messages. There is, after all, a reason that messenger's scrolls are such a special item during the Mistral Jamboree. Messages carried upon the wind have alywas had a special meaning to Wind dragons, and SnowySky considers it his duty to deliver every one safely. He is also the one tasked with bringing urgent news to Nocti, the clan's often traveling leader, if they have desperate need of her.

SnowySky was born in The Sea of a Thousand Currents, and for quite a while he had no intention of ever leaving it. However, the storms at sea are vicious, and when one blew up out nowhere, he couldn't find a place to land safely. He was forced to stay in the air to avoid the vicious waves, and was tossed back and forth wildly by the storm-blown gale. He wasn't strong enough to fight the storm, and it blew him far from his home, eventually depositing him on the shores of the Windswept Plateau. He was too exhausted to do anything but stagger to the first soft-looking patch of grass he saw, and collapse into sleep. The storm had left him battered and bruised, and completely lost.

When he came to, he found a concerned face peering into his, a face belonging to a seafoam-coated tundra. She tried to ask him who he was and if he was alright, but he could barely mumble out a few answers. Since he was obviously hurt, tired, and in need of help, Nocti gently helped him up, letting him lean against her shoulder, and step by step took him back to her lair. Even the short journey was exhausting in his state, and she immediately took him to a bed where he could rest again. When he woke, he found a bowl of soup sitting beside him, and he devoured it hungrily before falling back asleep. He spent much of his recovery asleep, but whenever he woke up he found a member of the clan there, from their leader Nocti who apparently didn't consider herself too important to play nurse, to Cheyanne or Chrono, the guardians who considered the clan their Charge.

It took him a while to get back to full health after his ordeal, but once he was, he wanted to find some way to thank the clan who had taken such tireless care of him. There had always been someone watching, ready to bring him a drink or reassure him that he was alright, gently asking his name and reassuring him that they would help him find his clan once he was better. Although he'd been a stranger, they treated him like one of their own. He was touched, and full of admiration. This was a way of life that he wanted to be a part of. This, he decided, was the clan he wanted to join.

Once he was recovered, he worked to regain his strength with flying practice. He was determined that should he get caught in such a storm again, this time he would be skilled enough o keep himself safe. Since he planned to be doing it anyway, he asked his clan members if there were any messages he could carry while he flew, with destinations that weren't too far away. Many of them had messages for family or friends in other clans nearby, and sometimes he even carried official missives to ally clans. As he started to grow stronger, and get to know the area around his new home better, he could carry messages father and farther afield. And the more messages he carried, the faster and stronger at flying he became, until he was one of the best in the clan. Nocti herself approached him to ask if he would be their official clan messenger, and to explain the duties it entailed.

SnowySky was happy to take up the job, and learn about what he had to do. A Wind clan messenger wears a special symbol on some piece of apparel, usually a sash or scarf, that symbolizes his status and lets other clans know to give him whatever aid he needs in carrying his messages to their intended recipients. It meant that he would be allowed to cross any clan's territory, even if they were engaged in hostilities and not letting anyone else through. However, he had to be sure to use his privilege honorably, and learn a code of conduct regarding it. A messenger who uses their access to spy, or to deliver weapons to warring clans, soon loses it. He had to be honorable and impartial. He diligently studied it, and was quizzed by all four of the dragons who held a position of leadership in the clan, before he was granted the official title.

Since the clan sometimes had more messages than he could carry swiftly enough, his duties also included the care and breeding of messenger birds. There are many birds in the Windswept Plateau, but the ones they use the most as messengers are the swift-flying zephyr sparrows native to the region. He received a few eggs from a friendly neighboring clan, and raised them from babies, letting them imprint on him so that they thought of him as a parent. He taught them to carry messages tied to their leg to certain locations, such as other lairs and common meeting places, and then come back once the message was delivered. This way, he could give priority to carrying packages and important messages, and still give the clan a way to deliver less urgent letters to friends and family. The birds laid their own eggs, and sometimes even brought friendly members of their wild breathren home with them, and the flock grew quickly. He enjoys spending his time in the aviary, feeding them bits of seed and listening to their twittering songs.

SnowySky is mates with Spika, the clan's cook. He first made her acquaintance when she would put in deliveries, for him to bring her spices or rare ingredients from other regions, often enough that they knew each other on a first name basis. She always had something waiting for him when he arrived back from a long flight, to refresh him from his hard work. She would make him special supplies for long trips, food that was packed with energy but would sit lightly in his stomach when he flew. She started leaving notes packed with the food, wishing him happy flying, or a safe trip, and he started tucking notes back to her into the packages he delivered for her. Their friendship grew into a fondness that has persisted, and though his frequent traveling often takes him away from her, she's always the first one he greets on his return.

Due to his constant travels SnowySky has also made a good friend Peri. Due to having similar jobs and hobbies the both meet up sometimes while delivering letters and packages. Sometimes sharing new ideas and thoughts to make things easier. Or sharing flight paths to make deliveries faster. Good resting points and easy food ideas to make during travels. Peri has even visited SnowySkies aviary. With dedication from both dragons the birds have also improved. SnowySky has started breeding some birds for Peri's own aviary.
