Biography
CAIRN Advocating | Holy Knight ∞ |
________
|
Cairn is a Holy Knight, devoted to the way of the Necromancer. He is a quiet individual who seems to be aloof and cold on first impression, but Cairn does care deeply for his family and friends. His entourage lovingly teases him for being "Mr. Grumpy." Cairn is most skilled in combat. He uses his trusty greatsword, Tombstone, to do battle with rebel Ghouls, Lichs, and Shade-touched beings. Cairn built Tombstone from the original Cleaver he found in the Wandering Contagion. Now, he spends his time in the lodgings below the Sky Corridor. The clan generously granted him and his sister Velika the facilities to use in order to do research on the Shade and how to banish it. During his stay in the Sky Corridor, his feelings have become complicated: now, he is faced with the possibility that his former mate Alasdair may be cured from the Shade... Cairn was brought to the Plague territories alongside his siblings at a young age. As a hatchling, he was frail and sickly. His parents, both Necromancers, believed in "survival of the fittest" and left the nameless hatchling without aid. Each day, the young dragon would venture out on his own to the Wandering Contagion and meditate, praying to Plaguebringer to help him overcome his afflictions. He would sit still for hours, earning him the nickname "Cairn" - for he was as still as a stone. Eventually, Cairn became much stronger than anyone expected. He could withstand strains of the Plague well at an early age. Confident, Cairn attempted the Necromantic Trials, daring to perch closer to the Wyrmwound than his peers. During his trials to become a Necromancer, he became friends with an ambitious and charismatic Coatl, Alasdair. Both passed the Trials with flying colors and set out together on a quest to spread the Necromancers' influence to other territories. During their travels, Cairn and Alasdair expressed their feelings towards each other and became mates. Unfortunately, Alasdair became obsessed with gaining more power and went as far as to become possessed by the Shade. Cairn, conflicted by his duty and his love for Alasdair, had a decision to make: slay his former mate, or let him live and betray the Necromancers? Or, perhaps there is another way. |

I wish we could just be together again.
Cairn rested his hands on the worn hilt of his sword. Tombstone's battered, rusted blade always reminded him of his promise to his order: Destroy those who go against the Necromancer code. Destroy the Shade. However, this time it was different. It had taken him months to find his quarry, yet even so it was not enough time for him to come to terms with what was expected of him. Destroy the traitor. Certainly, there had to be another way, he thought. Cairn approached the figure ahead of him, his heart beating loudly in his chest. Now, uncertainty gripped him just as tightly as he held his sword.
"I was wondering when you'd show up," came a familiar voice.
"Alasdair."
The Coatl only smiled at him, his arms wide in a welcoming gesture. Cairn hesitated.
"You know, my dear, you don't have to follow their rules," Alasdair purred. "Think about it. We're not in Plague territory anymore, and there's hardly anyone here who knows who and what we are. We could just... slip away."
"I can't abandon my duty," Cairn replied.
Alasdair turned, spreading his wings as if he were about to take flight. He peered over his shoulder, a glint of sadness in his eyes.
"I see. I suppose it can't be helped, then-"
"Wait!" Cairn blurted out. "Don't leave. Come with me instead."
"Hm? Why would I do such a thing? Go back with you and I will come face to face with my certain demise!"
"No, that won't happen. On your own, sooner or later, the other Necromancers will find you and your fears will come true. But, my sister understands. We will cure you from the Shade, somehow - I will make sure of it. Then... then, you'll get your wish."
And I, mine.
