Reader of Bones

"By Mother's flesh and Mother's Bone
From every star and every stone.
The purest signs, moon and sun
May Her will ever be done."

PERSONALITY

Eccentric | Independent | Persuasive

A reluctant member of Anaphylaxis's entourage, some say Masaka isn't really a part of it at all. Regardless of her affiliation to the Necromancers of the Scarred Wasteland, she has never been all that interested in becoming a Council Member or even a part of the Council in general. What does interest her are her own independent studies and travels. She claims that Plaguebringer Herself goads her to search and travel to new locations to spread Her words and edicts, though Masaka isn't much of a priestess. Any time Masaka disappears for any length of time, it has been due to a vision sent to her by the goddess. Her eccentricities are well known within her clan of choice and even when others come to her for advice or to have their fortune guessed at, her answers are cryptic at best and gibberish at worst.

The main reason Anaphylaxis has unnofficially adopted Masaka into her entourage is for the portents she can indeed seem to conjure up from the readings she makes. Masaka is extremely skilled when it comes to inflicting plague and pestilence to observe the course of the illness until her subject is close to death, then pulling the infection from the host just before the end and healing them to their original state. It is an uncomfortable, sometimes painful, and downright dangerous process, but those that really wish to know Plaguebringer's will endure it for that sake. And Masaka is one of the best Necromancers to undergo the ritual with. She has never once lost a patient, regardless of how close they all believe they got.

Masaka doesn't always seem like she knows what she's doing, but on the inside there is always a method to her madness. Her familiar, Nibo, holds her oracle plague (a breed she invented herself) in a special gemstone for use whenever she must read Plaguebringer's will. Few of Geist Clan actually approach Masaka for this treatment unless they feel Icewarden is ignoring them. Only the other Necromancers and their variants seem to be willing to undergo these readings. Masaka is always very persuasive, however, and can promise great things in exchange for coin, treasure, information, or even access to places and others she might not normally have access to. While she is not officially part of Anaphylaxis's entourage in her mind, the mirror will always claim her as such for these skills are invaluable.

BIOGRAPHY
Necromantic trials were something Masaka grew up hearing about. From a very young age, she was ready and willing to take these trials and by the time she was of the age to do so, she was there to receive Mother's mark. The chances of failure seemed to mean nothing to her. It wasn't that failure wasn't an option, she just didn't seem to believe the chances existed. It was a fact that she was always going to take the trials, and she was going to pass them without trouble. Perhaps she got lucky, or perhaps there's something to her believe that Mother smiled upon her from the moment she broke her shell. Either way, she was entirely correct in her thinking. She passed the trials without trouble and with all the required conviction.

The moment the Third Trial was completed, she was approached by a few Council members to find out if she would become part of their entourage or even become a Councilor herself. To this she replied that Mother's will was not that she remain within the Scarred Wasteland, but that she fly abroad. She was to study the world, the origins of pestilent life, and she was to show others Mother's divine will. She was also contact by a few of the priesthood specialties, but she seemed eager to get moving and did not join any of these. Instead, she flew far, Plaguebringer guiding her wings until she found a curious Necromancer like herself sequestered away in the Southern Icefields. Anaphylaxis and her single entourage member at the time, a wraith named Virax, had come into a clan of Icewarden for good or ill. The leader of the clan seemed indifferent, if not welcoming, to their presence.

Nherva, the matriarch of the Clan, has since had many talks and meetings with Masaka in particular. The pair of them both seek to know their gods better, to read their wills in signs and portents. It is unknown whether or not Nherva has ever subjected herself to one of Masaka's dangerous 'readings' but they have certainly met at length to discuss the similarities and differences in their patrons, as well as coordinate. Even though Anaphlyaxis claims Masaka as part of her entourage, it is unknown whether Masaka truly believes herself to be a part of the Councilor's group or if she remains with Clan Geist for its leader.

The Necromancer dragons of the Clans have their own annex in the sprawling mountainous lair that is off limits to any but the most high ranking. Within, Masaka has several of her own strains of disease frozen within the gemlike ice for later use. Even Nherva supports the existence of this strange and frightening area of the lair, as she has posted gaolers from the Order of Cerberus to make sure no one accidentally finds themselves in the midst of destructive magic they don't understand. Whispers circulate throughout the lair proper that there's something down there that howls in the night, screaming for freedom.

Uncommon Eyes
34758.png
Dragons with uncommon eyes tend to be open and easily influenced by the magical energies in their environment. Magic casters find that they have a wealth of power at their disposal if their surroundings match their element, but they can also be severely limited in lands that are foreign to their birth place. Due to their openness, dragons with uncommon eyes are especially suited to the first trial of infection. Their bodies readily accept Mother's Blessing and within days they find themselves riddled with plague. Given this early advantage, uncommon-eyed dragons typically have more time to fight off the plague and learn to control it, though their ability to do so is no greater or less than a common-eyed dragon.
Necromantic Symbol - Bones
20161.png
A symbol of death, truth, enlightenment, austerity, and divination. Necromancers bearing bones often serve as shamans to their clans. They foretell the tides of dominance, dates of future plague outbreaks, and can interpret the will of the Plaguebringer through signs and omens.
