A little egg, carried on bloodstained horns as gaolers trekked north. A little egg, nestled in a nest of soft furs and carefully woven bamboo mats.
Named after a goddess of nightmares and dreams, Melinoë had a beginning. Her parents were Sentinels who abandoned their posts once they realized Melinoë was on the way. An escape for her safety ended up putting her in greater danger, as her disgraced parents chosed to take on the Trial of the Pit against a trio of Undying Featherbacks with her egg perilously balanced on her mother’s gnarled horns. Despite triumphing against the boars, the small family was banished for the dishonor of accidentally letting necromancers into the massive plot they helped guard when they abandoned their station. They were transferred to the Wind steppes, a location with very little honor due to the relative safety of their graves, but it was a massive sigh of relief to Melinoë’w parents. They were very carefree and didn’t care for stature or safety from necromancers, they just wanted to do their job. When Melinoë’s egg was laid, they realized she might want something beyond the life they’re chosen, so they chose to sacrifice that life for their hatchling. Due to this choice, Melinoë grew up tending to a small plot for a little Wind clan, far away from the battles against necromancers and the undead.
