REMEMBRANCE

___
______To grow up without a mother is one thing, but to grow up barely remembering her whilst knowing full well that she was alive and well up until not long after one's birth, withering away after a long and predictable battle against death, well.... that was a completely different story. Remembrance was named in honor of her mother, a strong and independent figure that Remembrance wished she had known. Instead, all that stays with her is a few flashes of something warm, golden, and soft. The color had always been her favorite, or so she'd been told.

______To watch one's family weep and celebrate all at once at the ending of something you had not witnessed, it was painful to the young dragon. So connected yet so far away... Remembrance wanted nothing more than to know her mother, willing to do anything she might need to in order to unlock the young and hidden memories of her childhood. For months she searched the lands, yearning for someone or something to help her. With each shake of a head and sad, pitiful look, Remembrance grew less and less hopeful of ever remembering her mother.

______What cold irony. Her name teased her of the one thing she could not seem to obtain. Always just a moment too far, a claw too short to reach. Eventually she resigned, returning to her home and her siblings, waiting for her with their open wings. Siblings who held love and understanding, yet could never understand Remembrance's yearning, for they had what she did not. Memories.

______As Remembrance aged, she never quite outgrew the undying misery of her blocked out memories. Eventually growing desperate for an escape, Remembrance turned to spirituality. She met Eleum, a strange yet elegant dragon who promised to help the mirror. Of course, her initial reaction to the voice speaking solely inside her mind was rather startling, but Remembrance was quick to get used to it. She would be her mentor for the foreseeable future, after all.

______Years of practice and a diligence unmatched by any other dragon Eleum had ever met, Remembrance finally achieved what she had been training for... Contact with the other side. Though it was nothing more than a curious spirit, it was one step closer to being able to see her mother again, if again was the right word to use when she had no memory of ever meeting her before.

______It may take several years thereafter, maybe even her whole life, but Remembrance would never give up on her dream. She was going to know who her mother was.

______It was when she finally did find her mother, or what was left of her, that Remembrance happened upon the Carrionix, and before she knew it she had become one of them. Remembrance's "friend" turned out to be rather helpful, actually, and she quickly found herself making the most of her situation, using her circumstances to her advantage during her spiritual endeavors. As the symbiote progressed within her, she lost her sense of vision, but instead gained eyes on her wings that could not so much as "see" as they could sense other worlds and spiritual presences. It was her symbiote's way of helping her, she learned. Not too long after, she sprouted an extra, feathery set of wings. These wings were smaller than her main pair, but they helped her maneuver with her lack of sight. That is, after she relearned how to fly. Two sets of wings are not nearly as easy to fly with as one may think.
