PERSONALITY

Too curious for her own good. Stubborn. Resourceful. Loyal to friends and family. Somehow remains kind and compassionate even in the face of the cutthroat nature of Council politics; In her eyes, too many dragons use the Mother’s gift in order to be cruel to others. Some may see her as naive, but she would rather see herself as optimistic, and a believer of second chances. Despite being kind, she can also be utterly vicious to those who try to bring harm to those she loves.

ABOUT

Even as a hatchling, Neveah’s curiosity about the world around her was unparalleled, and it came as no surprise to her caretakers that her first words were ‘why?’ and ‘why not?’. It was as if the world itself owed her answers to her questions, and as a young dragonet she was quite determined to wring them out of everyone in her vicinity. Stubbornness was the next trait to manifest: Neveah never settled for anything less than an answer that satisfied her queries, and refused to accept that there were things beyond her understanding. Answers such as ‘no’ or ‘I don’t know’ or ‘that’s just how things are’ did not discourage her in the slightest.

Neveah is the child of an emperor. Before she was born, her father Graham died in an accident and was incorporated into the Emperor Lerna, an amalgamation of four other long-dead imperials. While other young dragonlings might shy away in the face of such a nightmare, Neveah was unafraid. She came to love her sire dearly, even when her mother explained the importance of keeping his existence a secret: emperors were perhaps the most feared and reviled creatures in dragon society, and Lerna had to be locked away as much for their own safety as for the safety of the world outside. No one could know.

Lerna could indeed be frightening when they thrashed and snarled and snapped at anything that moved, but Neveah had also observed that Lerna could also be calm, and, most exciting of all, able to speak and have feelings. Thus, her lifelong passion of researching everything to do with the existence of emperors was born. Clearly the tales of Emperors being utterly mindless and savage had to be wrong, when her sire had moments of lucidity and consciousness. Each head had its own personality, and she talked to all of them, eagerly sharing the new things she’d learned that day. Graham, being the youngest head, was usually the most animated and the most ‘present’, but over time even the other heads grew to recognize and grow fond of her.

Her hunger for knowledge persisted into adulthood. She became a Necromancer in part due to her birthright - both her parents before her had undergone the Trials - but also to open up the door for higher learning that could only be acquired through the Necromancer Council. Through her meditations during the trials, she learned a very important lesson: when to ask questions, and when to keep her trap shut in order to allay any suspicion as to her motives. After passing her Necromantic Trials and becoming a member of the council, Neveah devoted herself to her studies as a Sage and to the Mother.

(She does, however, secretly question the dogmatic and sometimes fanatical beliefs of the Necromantic Council. In her view, the Council is utterly stagnant, too slow to change, and hostile to anything that might challenge the status quo. She quietly bides her time, however, building up her standing in order to get access to even the most forbidden texts.)

Her need to understand emperors perhaps also played in to her need to understand herself. By rights, Neveah ought not to exist. An emperor - the undead amalgamation of multiple individuals brought together by unholy magic - should never have been able to sire a clutch… and, one could also argue that her mother Dahlia also probably should have known better. Lerna was an abomination unto themself, but Neveah perhaps was something even worse; while emperors defied all natural laws and were in direct violation of The Mother’s plan, life had somehow been spawned from the undead. Did that make her an abomination too? How could one be an abomination, if one also loved and learned and pledged themselves wholly to the service of the Plaguebringer?

Surely The Mother approved of her existence, Neveah reasoned. It was by Her will that Neveah had even been touched by The Mother’s Plague in the First Trial, and this was evidence enough for Neveah that she had been deemed worthy in Her eyes.
