Night was a rare moment of quiet for the right hand of the queen. And not to be mistaken--she loved her position, she loved her liege, she loved and lived and breathed the Kalopsia. She would not have traded her place for the world. But with Grimoire having taken sentry watch for the evening and Carmen being...otherwise occupied in some fashion Kenna hadn't been privy to, it was a moment to herself that the coatl did not commonly have. She could see, from across the courtyard, the silhouette of her queen and liege. Kenna waited quietly, watching Annalise from across the distance before the queen's gaze was drawn her way. The queen inclined her head just a fraction, and Kenna returned the bow before making her way into the courtyard. Trusted as she was--as much as the queen truly trusted anyone--it would not do for a member of the Small Council to simply vanish without acknowledgement.

Not that Kenna was planning on going far. For a quiet evening of introspection, one needed to go no further than the garden in the courtyard here at House Galla. And as was commonly the case, she found herself before the memorial to Andante first. Andante the Gallant, indeed. She'd always thought it a fitting name for their home. And the courtyard spoke to it all; for as brave and gallant as they all were, this was a reminder of what had been lost on that road.

Crafter the Good, forever remembered by his greatest strength and that which was his downfall in one word. A reminder that kindness and goodness must be controlled if one sits the throne, as it were. A good king will kill the criminal with the strength of his own hand, but must keep an eye watching behind him for those who would stab him in the back and slash his wings.

Or her wings. Kenna looked toward Cavatina, a small smile playing on her mouth. The Little Lion had always been one of the memorials that called to Kenna the most. The hatchling of royalty, a fighter comparable to few, an aspiring queen. One of the last members of the true royal line to survive, and yet still not even she was immune to the war and blood that it shed.

From there her eyes found Dancer, the Queen Before, the Beloved, the spark that set the whole clan alight. Though she knew there was no blood connection, Kenna liked to imagine that she could see the strength of Annalise in Dancer's quiet eyes--or perhaps, it was the other way around and that the strength of the queen would follow from dragon to dragon, and her liege was simply the most recent bearer of that power, that regal nature.

Just beside Dancer was her son and prince, Soprano, and behind him his brother Alto. It could have been so easy to be overwhelmed standing amongst these memories, these standards of strength--and it was true, Kenna had heard from others that they found it difficult to spend too much time in the courtyard. Overwhelmed or unworthy, they found it uncomfortable.

She couldn't understand that.

This was the line of nobles and fighters who had come before and guided them on their way forward. This was Galla, this was who they were and who they strove to remember. This was their light and strength. As much as this was their past, it was also, in a way, their future. And from that, Kenna found great strength and solitude, inasmuch as she might from seeking a moment of solace with the Lightweaver. The gods were in this place, and they were with Galla. They were with her, and with her king and queen, and with all of the Small Council. With all of them.

She took a deep breath and spread her wings, letting the night breeze cool her as she imagined all the memories and spirits around her filling her with strength...and then breathing out the tension and worries of the day. From the corner of her eye a moment later, she could see Grimoire returning, and the two shared a brief nod. Nothing to report then, which was both what one would hope, and what Kenna had expected. The quiet night deserved to remain quiet. With a final glance back to the Queen Before, and then again to her queen present, she stepped out into the night to take her own turn of patrol.

Crafter defend me, give me strength to see justice and wisdom to recognize it. Dancer help me to show mercy to others, and to celebrate life as it is given. Andante give me strength and defend me; keep my arms and wings strong, and give peace to those who I may leave behind, either by my hand or my death. Soprano guide me and help me to set what is wrong back to right. Cavatina guide me, strengthen me, and always remind me to look beyond that which is obvious. Alto show me wisdom, and lead me where I might not see to go. Catcher keep me in the darkness, and remind me that to fall in battle is not the end, but merely another step of the journey.

I will protect you.
