Asura whispers to herself. Well, not herself per se. More to the creature living inside her.

In her youth, she had been fascinated by the Wyrmwound, the cauldron of disease a playground for imagination. She would often sit at the edge of her parent's den, watching as the Plaguebringer cultivated unspoken horrors, the acrid green glow casting a harsh shadow across the land. It had been her dream to peer inside, to satiate the hunger gnawing within her gut. It had been, before the world shook.

On the day of the great calamity, Asura sought refuge far below the surface, but emerged days later to a strange sight. An Aberration dozing off inside her den. Drawing the nearest weapon, she prepared to send off the interloper, before it raised it's two heads and shrieked. Muttering in shock and bewilderment, it shied away with little resistance, and Asura noticed the acidic wounds along it's body. Setting judgment aside, she offered to patch the dragon's wounds in exchange for answers. The intruder agreed.

Her name was Eryth. During the calamity, she had plunged into the Wyrmwound but survived, though something deep within her had changed. Inside her head, and even her heart, there were voices pleading for her to find them; but, along her travels, she had been pursued by the Plaguebringer's exalted forces, and as a last resort had shielded herself in Asura's den. The very injustice of it all plucked at the Obelisk's heartstrings, so much so that she promised to help the Aberration quest across the wasteland in search of her calling. Friendship was quick to blossom between them, and Asura did her best to defend her from harm, her expertise with weapons indispensable against the mutant life of the wasteland.

It was a shame that the Plaguebringer caught up to them before the journey's end.

Only after she fluttered her eyes open did Asura realize she was alive. In fact, she was more than just alive - where there were deep wounds she felt no pain, her leg weak but no longer broken. Yet, her friend was nowhere to be seen, the blood across the ground impossible to type. Some she knew was hers, but the rest was a mystery. Perhaps she would have cared more if something hadn't started wiggling beneath her skin. Letting out a scream, a deep voice quickly spoke to her in silky word from inside her skull, telling her of all the dragons it had inhabited before, passing along stories through a mere flicker of neurons firing. What was it? A traveler from space. Was it going to hurt her? It simply wanted to be friends. To make her better, stronger. Was it stuck with her forever?

Yes.

She named it Undercroft to try and personify it - it was surprisingly easy to get along with after that development. As they walked, the two would talk in solitude as it swam within her veins, sometimes soaking in the rays of sun through her skin, other times sleeping inside the cavities of her heart. Croft had interesting tales of life in space, crashing down to Sornieth to mingle among the dragons. It spoke of a connection to others of it's species, sometimes even letting Asura listen in to the conversations of it's brethren. All the talk of connections led her to grow lonely, however, missing companionship from her own kin. Stumbling across Eryth again one day was almost too hard to believe.

The two embraced like nothing had changed. Taken under her wing, Asura was led back to a group of other dragons diseased the same as Eryth, and in hearing the Obelisk's valiant sacrifice were more than willing to let her stay with them. In fact, no one ever questioned just how she survived. No one except Cardinal. Under her scrutiny, Asura spent more and more time wondering just how she lived through the attack.

Perhaps there was more to her meeting with Undercroft than mere chance.

Perhaps survive was a strong word for what she'd done.
