Dragon Log

11-7-14: Came to the Clan, and was instantly adopted by Fireopal. Isn't she gorgeous?

11-16-14: She grew into her full potential, and soon took the name that her "father" had been hinting should be hers all along: Meet Ruby, the new jewel of the Clan!

1-10-15: Now that she's older, she no longer needs Fireopal to be quite so parental.... in fact, she has joined the Elemental Gems Hatchery project with all the other dragons. Really, her "father" was more a mentor than a parent all along...

2-4-15: Ruby's Cardinal Hippogriff, Red (no one said she had much imagination), has Awakened! Fortunately, he is far more amused than annoyed by the name she gave him....

2-15-15: The first round of the Coatls' project is over, and Ruby is thrilled with the results. One of the most popular females in the project, she had her pick of possible mates, and is extremely happy with her choice....

2-16-15: Ruby is now the proud--and very nervous--mother of 3 eggs....

2-19-15: Red has been "poached"--for a time at least--by Norberta. Ruby does not mind that much, however, as theirs was a friendship built on respect more than anything else, and if Red wants to "wander" so be it. In the meantime, she is waiting for her eggs to hatch.., and trying to convince a certain Venomous Toridae to go bond with someone else, preferably a long way away from her vulnerable children. So far, it isn't working....

4-21-15: The children are no longer vulnerable.... in fact, 2 of them have made the decision to serve the Gods in their respective homes! The Shaodwbinder and the Arcanist are very lucky to have them... In the meantime, Ruby's first-born, Valentine, has moved at last to another Clan, also in Arcane--though whether she will stay there is still not certain....

4-28-15: Ruby just learned, from a visiting Arcane dragon, that Valentine has had a daughter! She is thrilled for her oldest child, and wishes the small family well....

5-19-15: Right on time, the Venomous Toridae has Awakened! Ruby is extremely relieved, as now there is a much better chance of convincing him to leave the nesting area alone--and that may become extremely important soon, what with a new season of breeding taking place....

6-18-15: Red has returned "home," at least for a little while. Perhaps the advent of new hatchlings have lured him away from Norberta? After a whirlwind round of courting and fun, Ruby has settled on her next mate... and now has 4 eggs in the Hatching Ground!

6-28-15: The four eggs hatched...and 5 days down the road Ruby is a bit harried with three little ones who won't grow up, and won't settle down.... she isn't sure to be sad or glad that Soilwing, her youngest, chose to leave fairly quickly after his birth. Either way, she wishes him well, and wishes all the more that the other three would make up their own minds quickly....

7-9-15: Sometime ago, Grielle, Ruby's second-born daughter out of her second clutch, wandered off to a Water Clan. Recently Ruby learned that she is doing quite well there....

7-14-15: Ruby's firstborn out of her second clutch has finally made up his mind what he wants to do. He has traveled to a Wind Clan, and taken the name QirElai, which Ruby suspects has some hidden meaning he will one day reveal. She is thrilled that her son seems to have found his place at last, and wishes him luck in his new home--and is even happier that that home happens to be in her birth Flight....

8-9-15: The currently youngest daughter of Ruby has decided to move out.... and has also made the radical decision to change her appearance! No longer is she a Tiger.... now her coat has become Piebald instead....a new gene for a new Flight! She seems to be happy in her chosen Ice Clan, and has even found a mate! Ruby and Citrine wish their "little one" well....

9-7-15: The Clan had some moderate success during the Flamefoger's Festival... and as a result Ruby now has a Focus Necklace of her own special stone! The Teardrop Ruby Necklace tends to blend in with her coloring, but she considers that an added bonus, as it means it is hard for other mages to see...

9-9-15: Ruby's children have been busy... and while some of her grandchildren have gone on to serve various gods, and some are still wandering Senioth, she is proud of each and every one....

11-20-16: Ruby recently learned an unsettling piece of gossip about her daughter Minka, once called Nerough. This particular Coatl seems to like experimenting far too much, and after changing her appearance several times she has decided to become a baby again--despite having multiple children and grand-children running around Sornieth. Minka's father chooses to believe that this was an accident, but Ruby is almost certain that it was deliberate--though she is not sure exactly why her daughter would choose this path.... Perhaps she wanted some peace from all the males for a while? Only time will tell whether this change will be fleeting or permanent….

10-3-18: Ruby was quite distressed today, when she discovered that the magical phenomenon sweeping Sornieth can strike any dragon, of any age, at any time. Having escaped the "halo" appearance during the Flameforger's Festival, the older Coatl was sure that she would not be "gifted" with this visual representation of her magic after all. Unfortunately for her hopes, the Conflagrant Halo appeared today while Ruby was working on conjuring a new permanent fire source for the lair. Hopefully the dratted fire will fade from around her head as quickly as it appeared....

3-24-19: After months of feeling out of sorts, Ruby has abruptly been returned to her old self, by a very simple event: When the Clan's new Aerborne Ambassador came into the caves, he headed straight for Ruby, without hesitation. Now, after years of waiting in vain, Ruby is finally the happy companion of a Mistral Jamboree Familiar! The Clan is thrilled for the old fire mage from Wind Flight, and eager to see how the friendly kitsune will add to the magic in the lair...

6-20-19: Sirocco, the Aerborne Ambassador, has Awakened a last! Ruby is overjoyed to see her friend full of such boundless energy, and can't wait to see what he will do with his magic first...

3-22-20: After years of staying at home, Ruby has grown somewhat restless, and has decided to journey to the Mistral Jamboree this year, as one of the “chaperones” at the Cloudsong Celebration. She is very much looking forward to the journey, and the chance to see her Birth Flight’s lands once more….

3-29-20: The Mistral Jamboree is winding down at last, and Ruby cannot believe that it is over so soon. She has enjoyed herself immensely, indulging in all sorts of games, and watching with delight as some of the younger dragons experienced the pleasures of the Twisting Crescendo for the first time. It was the reactions of a much older dragon, however, that made her the happiest she has been in some time: Seaspray, her old friend and fellow Wind Dragon, has recovered his equilibrium at last. No longer trapped in melancholy. The old Pearlcatcher has once begun to combine his Dual Magics of Wind and Water seamlessly, and is clearly enjoying both powers equally once again. ( ) Ruby is ecstatic at this change, and looking forward to seeing the Clan’s reaction when the dragons who went to the Cloudsong return home and everyone sees Seaspray smiling again.

In the meantime, however, there is one more night to wait before the dragons make that journey home, and Ruby is quite busy packing everything up, making sure all dragons are accounted for, and trying to figure out what on Sornieth she is going to do with the strange bird that her Clanmate shoved into her paws… ( )

4-8-20: The question of what to do with the Robotic Tender was answered today, for better or worse, when Ruby tried to shoo the poor bird into the Vault. The strange avian squawked in so much distress that Ruby could not help herself. The motherly Coatl pulled the bird against her, stroking his metal wings in an attempt to soothe him, and he turned his head to look up at her….and now Ruby has a new familiar to look after. Oh well, at least “Random” is relatively gentle, and not likely to cause much trouble…

7-3-20: Random has Awakened! Ruby is quite relieved. Perhaps now that he is older, and far more mature, he will far less likely to react badly when he hears an unexpected noise or sees an odd magical flare-up. It was getting a bit stressful trying to soothe him every time one of the more creative dragons of the Clan got a bit, er, excited about their work...

3-29-21: It is time for the Mistral Jamboree again, and Ruby is happily enjoying the Cloudsong Celebration. This year she has a very special task to perform, as the Clan’s newest member is accompanying her as her special charge. So far, they have not managed to find a solution for the young one’s overpowerful Wind Magic, but they have seen some great entertainment. ( ) Perhaps they will find a solution to the young Guardian’s “problem” tomorrow. In the meantime, Ruby is enjoying herself immensely re-experiencing the Celebration through this young one’s eyes… ( )
