Jonas

Detective Jonas: a private investigations veteran who can rarely be found in his office in the Hewn City. His clients are largely unknown, and often times, so are the detective's whereabouts. When he is visible, he can usually be found at his office, or in the Radiant Eye area. In particular, he's been asked to speak at academies for up-and-coming detectives, and has happily obliged. It may be observed, but isn't necessarily widely-known, that seeing the next generation of detectives, and their budding skills, is soothing to the middle-aged Pearlcatcher. He's also casually kept an eye on students who intrigue him, or who he thinks show particular promise.

Such observation is limited to his visits, of course, and strolling the grounds appears to be among his most calming passtimes. His occupation is, after all, not to instruct, but to sleuth. As such, the majority of his time is spent on this, and usually undercover.

Generally, this is the extent of the information readily available about Detective Jonas. Despite his calm, casual way of going about things, and amiable disposition, he is very much a mystery. His past is obscured beyond the reach of the vast majority of dragons, whether common or great, as though he suddenly began existing one day, slipping into the time stream without so much as a ripple.

This is extremely intentional. The following is an account of events hidden from the present: the story of Jonas Leto.

Detective Jonas is part of the Criminal Investigations Bureau and Private Eye Network of Sornieth (CIBPENS.) This establishment also runs an academy for training up future lawyers, analysts and private gumshoes, and puts out some of the best in their respective professions.

One promising young doctor-turned-detective he met, Tinuviel, Jonas recommended to CIBPENS Academy with the sincere hope that he would take advantage of the courses to enhance his abilities as a detective. This is because, having a medical background, he could have a unique niche in the detective field, already having a sense for forensics. The two chatted over coffee. As it turned out, the young detective looked up to Jonas. It was a humbling and heartwarming to thing to discover, though privately, Jonas also began to wonder just how long he'd been in this game. He was getting a bit old, now, wasn't he? Well, that wasn't so bad, especially when he reflected on how many people he'd helped as a result, including being an inspiration to the next generation of detectives. He looked forward to seeing what sort of great things they would do...but he was also far from ready to retire, so they had some competition just yet!

All of this information can be gathered from the story I have about his origins, his bio, and the short story I wrote about Detective DePero. Each fact is marked by how likely it is that someone would know this fact about him, with "classified" being "yeah, don't try to know this; it's just that unlikely."

- Jonas' real name is Jonas Leto, and he used to go by his second name. (Classified.)
- Before he changed his identity, Jonas was once a model (art subject) and a fine arts student. After a run-in with more nefarious types (his life was legit in danger), he abandoned his old life (only taking his pearl with him) and fled to the Sunbeam Ruins, where he reported what he knew. He fell into the occupation of "detective" from there. (Classified.)
- Jonas never lost his love of art. His favorite kind are abstract ones featuring the interplay between light and shadow. (Not common knowledge, but not super-secret. The secret part is this: Jonas is careful to limit his visits to galleries and the like in order to protect his identity.)
- By now, Jonas is middle-aged. (Easily observable, about a 50% chance it is mentioned when Jonas is the subject.)
- Jonas is a sleuthing veteran. (Very common knowledge.)
- Jonas is notorious: famous among certain detective communities and infamous among criminal circles (especially dark syndicates.) By name ("Detective Jonas"), not by sight. (Uncommon knowledge on the whole, common knowledge where applies.)
- Despite the above point, Jonas isn't very flashy. He's more practical than that, and is never the one to actually take anyone down. His job is to look into possibilities, (i.e., "there's suspicious activity in x place that bears the hallmarks of x dangerous group. Go look into it and tell us what you find.") discover what the truth of those possibilities are, and send the information back to the bureau. Then, he just keeps on watching and reporting until he receives orders to switch missions, or until the bureau sends a team to take care of the issue. This is part of why what he looks like isn't widely known, why he's still alive, and the reason for his high success rate in assisting with the shutting down of dangerous groups. (Not a secret, but not often talked about. Uncommon information.)
- Though he's a calm, amiable sort, and treats virtually everyone in a polite, pleasant way, Jonas deftly avoids making lasting personal connections. Oversimplified, this caution is borne of a fear of having such connections. The dangerous nature of his job (which could bleed over into negatively affecting any friends or family he might have) is one factor, and another is that it's easier to keep secrets if you're not close friends with anyone. (Classified, but it's not impossible to surmise the general fact that he doesn't keep close friends. It would require having a decent amount of information on his personal life, though, which is near impossible to obtain.)
- Despite the above point, he does have a hand in the upbringing of promising, new detectives, and has a soft spot for such students. (Details on this in his bio. Uncommon information, but not impossible to get out of a student Jonas has taken a special interest in (such as Detective DePero.))
- Though there is no conclusive evidence that Leto the model is dead, he went missing for so long that this is the general belief. Jonas doesn't interfere with this belief. (Again, classified that he's Jonas Leto and that he's still alive, but (even though it's old news) the record of Leto's disappearance is publicly available.)
- Jonas is a very mysterious dragon with very, very little information on him available. (Ironically, fairly common knowledge.)
- Jonas has an affinity for both the Light element and the Shadow element, though he only actually has the Light element. (Uncommon knowledge, but surmisable.)
