Dragon Log

Gentle and mild most of the time, this Coatl does have a hidden temper, though it rarely shows. He prefers to be easy-going, and gets on well with almost all of the Clan—even the more volatile members. However, this Coatl is no push-over…especially when those he cares for are being threatened. He is also quite good with languages, rare as that is amongst Coatls, and enjoys chatting with all the various dragons of the Clan in their native tongue—which stuns most newcomers speechless. One thing he is not good at, however, is metalworking….which is why he left his birthclan for one more magically inclined. So far, he has not found any particular aspect of Arcane that “speaks” to him, though he is determined to learn about Focus Stones, since it seems that all Coatls of the Clan use them….

11-18-14: He joined the Clan soon after growing up, and has been enjoying himself ever since.... As he has also been enjoying the Venerable Shalebuck that came out to take a look at him as soon as he arrived. It is an odd pairing, but it seems to work....

11-19-14: Tanzanite, Sapphire, or some other gem? He can't decide....

12-4-14: He has found his name... and his passion. 'Phire loves the gems that "burn" and flash in the sunlight!

2-15-15: It is an exciting day for Sapphire. Not only has his Venerable Shalebuck familiar Awakened, but the Hatchery round ended... and he was one of the lucky males chosen! 'Phire is equally thrilled at both accomplishments....

3-3-15: The little ones have all grown, now--except for the last two, who don't seem to want to hatch out of their eggs--and Sapphire has gone back to his hobby of digging for gems. He is aided in this considerably by the newest addition to his little "family": A Bucktooth Digger moved in near the Clan and took an instant liking to him.... who knows what treasure they will find together?

4-28-15: A recent visitor to the Clan informed Sapphire that he now has three grandchildren by his son Snowball... all of whom have now chosen to serve the Arcanist. Snowball himself, it appears, has decided to journey to Ice Flight--all the way to the Icewarden! Sapphire is impressed by the news, and hopes that all four of his family will acquit themselves well with their chosen Gods....

6-1-15: After many hours and days of happy digging, the Bucktooth Digger has Awakened! Sapphire counts this as great an accomplishment as the stash of gems he and Digger recently uncovered. Perhaps now they will be able to find even better things....

6-15-15: Sapphire used some gems--and his own natural charm--to court the ladies during the Hatchery Project.... and he succeeded in catching the attention of one of the true beauties of the Clan! Now he and his mate are watching over their single egg in the Hatching Grounds. 'Phire's only regret is that he doesn't have more offspring on the way....

6-20-15: Sapphire's next hatchling has been born! He is thrilled with the little one, and watched with some amusement as Sky's mother fussed over him after his birth. After a little time, the young male Coatl has decided that he wishes to travel. 'Phire wishes him a safe journey, and a quick arrival in his new Arcane Clan....

7-22-15: 'Phire's oldest son has finally decided to leave home. He found a nice Arcane Clan to visit, and decided to move in....

8-23-15: It seems that while the Bucktooth Digger was digging in the Ashfall Waste during the Fire Festival he dug a little too deep... and now a Molten Marauder has followed him back to the Clan. Sapphire is thrilled to have an Elemental Acolyte to bond with, but the rest of the Clan is still trying to figure out exactly what this creature is.... and how dangerous he could prove to be.

9-9-15: Seascape has added to Sapphire's list of grandchildren.... and then gone to serve the Lightweaver in her lair. Sapphire wishes him well, and is watching his grandchildren with interest....

12-5-15: It was a much longer--and trying--journey than usual, but the Molten Marauder has finally Awakened. He has also settled into Clan life, and much of the trepidation at his presence has vanished--perhaps due to his ability to calm some of the more unfortunate and dangerous fire-related Arcane energies around the lair....

12-23-15: While some familiars are Awakening, others are taking celebrating of the Night of Nocturne in other ways. The Molten Marauder has decided that this is the perfect time to announce his chosen name. It does, after all, fit the idea of darkness.... Meet Brimstone!

10-14-16: Time goes on, and young hatchlings grow into adult dragons who want Clans of their own. Such is the way of Sornieth, even if it sometimes take a while.... most of Sapphire's children had found themselves a home some time ago, but his second eldest was having a little trouble with the concept of "moving out.". Eventually, however, he found his place, and now he is happily installed in the Clan of AGiraffeAndAHalf, in Ice Flight. Sapphire is relieved that his son has found a home for himself at last....

8-29-17: 'Phire has been enjoying himself at the Flameforger's Festival, and found a very interesting booth while looking for his son Anguis, where he decide to indulge in a little Ember Tossing, for old times sake—and in the hopes that this was something he could actually do right…. ( )

8-30-17: Sapphire’s efforts at the Ember Toss Game were not at all bad, and he is quite satisfied with the results… ( )

9-2-17: Sapphire, his friend and fellow "parent" of Anguis, Athena, and Anguis himself returned to the Fire Forge Stall together for the final day of the Flameforger's Festival. They decided to engage in a friendly competition of Ember Toss to end the week... ( )

So the family had a great time, and came home with some nice ever-flaming bottles to display on their Trophy Shelves....

11-21-18: It's that time of year again! The random Turkey Spell was invoked...and Sapphire has ended up with the "Turkey Suit." He was a bit startled to be chosen, but not really that upset. He is actually looking forward seeing what the ladies think of his new look. And maybe looking like a Woodland Turkey will aid him in figuring out the language of those elusive birds....

12-2-18: Wearing the "Turkey Suit" was quite an experience, and despite the fact that no ladies (except for Athena, of course) were very appreciative of Sapphire's time as a turkey, he is still sorry to see the spell fade, especially since it did, in face, aid him in thinking like a turkey. A few more days and he might even have figured out the language. Ah well, perhaps he will get another shot at it next year...

12-11-18: Recently, Sapphire gained some news of one of his children, courtesy of a visiting dragon. Apparently, Sapphire's last unnamed hatchling has finally decided on a name at last. Taking the name Triton, the not-so-young Coatl has settled into his adopted Clan, and seems quite content with his chosen family...

6-7-19: Sapphire decided to raid the Hoard today--perhaps inspired by the newest acquisitions of his “brother” Spinel, and his “sister” Lapis Lazuli--and came away with some new apparel items, all of which sport some very powerful Focus Stones. His Ghost Flame Headpiece and Ghost Flame Wing Ribbon contain the same odd, currently unidentified jewels, that works quite well to channel both his natural Fire Magic as well as, surprisingly, his learned Water Magic. And the Lapis Lazuli Pendant that his “sister” has allowed him to have is also an excellent conductor for Water Magic, allowing Sapphire to considerably broaden his skills. It should come as no surprise, therefore, that the powerful Mage has also acquired both a Searing Emblem and a Fathomsearch Halo in the wake of the extraordinary magical surge that rippled through the cave system the other day….

4-12-20: This year's Festival Familiars have proven a bit more choosy than most when it comes to which dragons they wish to bond with. In fact, to the great distress of many of the dragons in the Clan, a number of the "Gem Guardians" have not chosen a dragon to bond with at all! Such was the case with the Fire Familiar, a rather handsome Emberglow Gem Guardian. He had been absolutely refusing to even acknowledge any Fire dragon in the Clan--until today, when he suddenly approached Sapphire, without warning or explanation, and immediately initiated a bond. The happy Coatl has absolutely no idea what caused "Asher" to decide to befriend him, but he is certainly not going to protest his good fortune. And after all, what better match could there be for a dragon who loves "Focus Stones" than with a creature whose very existence is dedicated to protecting elemental gemstones? Really, there couldn't be a better outcome, no matter what all the other dragons are saying about their unfortunate color clash...

7-13-20: Asher has Awakened! Sapphire is thrilled to see his friend filled with so much energy, and with so many plans to collect even more gemstones for their special hoard...

8-23-20: Asher is now more than big enough to take care of himself, and Sapphire is feeling a little restless. So it’s a good thing that it is once more the Flameforger’s Festival. Some time wandering the land of his youth may be just what this Fire Coatl needs. And perhaps he’ll find that old Ember Toss Stall while he’s wandering…although he has heard that the Forge is a bit different now…

8-24-20: It was actually fairly easy to find the Ember Toss Game, and Sapphire is now enjoying himself listening to Fuller’s explanation on the new golems in their bottles. ( ) Hopefully these new golems will fair better than those of Nebula, which are undoubtedly destined for the cooking pot--or maybe the poison stores…Sapphire is going to have to remember to warn the Clan Mother not to let the Dark Mage make dinner for a while…at least until they can find a way to get those Mushrooms and Fire Ants away from her…but in the meantime, the Firecoilers, Gobys and others being offered today look like a nice possible addition to Sapphire’s own collection of pets--if he can just get those sparks in the bottles… ( )

8-25-20: And Sapphire has been successful! Or...moderately so, at least. 17 bottles lit out of 20 isn’t bad, after all, and he managed to animate quite a few of each golem, so he will have a lot of pets now…Hmmm…maybe he was too successful? Ah, well, he had fun, and Anguis will no doubt be pleased to see all the new snakes once he arrives… ( )

8-26-20: As it happens, Anguis was absolutely thrilled with the new snakes, and even so more so of the chance to try for his own. There was a bit of a problem when the overeager Forgemaster first arrived, as he managed to bowl over Cait, Fuller’s Fae helper, and almost careened into the Forge itself, but once he settled down Sapphire’s son made quite a respectable showing at the Forge, and is now happily examining his new pets… ( )

…And so the Festival has come to a successful conclusion for Sapphire and Anguis both, and Sapphire may even be able to drop a hint to another Clanmate about the Ember Toss Game. After all, Quartz would just love one of those glass-making scorpions… ( )

10-1-20: Sapphire's old friend the Venerable Shalebuck gave him a pleasant surprise today: After years of keeping to himself, and refusing all attempts at a name, the creature has suddenly announced that he would like a "unique identity," and asked to be called "Rocky". Sapphire is thrilled with the name, though he does wonder why the crotchety old boy made his choice now. Could it be that the Shalebuck is growing worried, with all the new familiars moving in? He can't truly think 'Phire would forget about him, can he? Perhaps Sapphire should spend a little more time with him today....
