Travelers Log

Uh-oh, looks like this confused flame wandered a little too far from her lair (63678, whamm), and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the urge to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her home instead, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here.

Arekuru's original story (that was meant to prep Skylight to be exalted):
Skylight always felt like she was born into the wrong flight. With a coloring like hers, shouldn't she be in water or air instead of fire? But one day, as she was moping around the great fire her clan always kept burning, an elder dragon spoke to her: "Child, you claim you don't fit in here in Fire, and yet I always see you hanging around that flame. It's not water you should be thinking to drown yourself in but a different kind of light - Light Flight."

Skylight at first ignored the elder - what could she know about her feelings? - but she began to pay attention to the way she lifted her face to the sun, to how sunbeams seemed warmer than the fire, and how the golden glow truly set off her scales to their best effect. When she reached the age of her majority, she could no longer deny that the elder was right. Light Flight was her destiny, and she longed to serve under the Lightweaver herself.

  • Skylight's time in her first Light clan did not go as planned. It was beautiful. The dragons were lovely, but she still couldn't shake the feeling that she didn't belong. Maybe if she served the Lightweaver directly it would all make more sense? It is a huge decision to make, to choose to become exalted. At her second Light lair the matriarch, Aurelia encouraged Skylight to see more of the world before making her final decision.

  • Here she was back in the lands of light again, a stark contrast to the shadowy lair she had visited previously. She is welcomed into the crumbling castle by a smiling wise imperial. She listens to stories of awe and wonder told by an elderly skydancer and imperial, and is even briefly trained in combat by a ridgeback in bloody armor. She becomes very close to a coatl with a love for the arts and feels something stirring inside of her. A need to protect Corin with every fiber of her being. She has found her charge and her home.
  • Getting cold feet would be ironic for a dragon originally born Fire Flight, and yet she couldn't explain it any other way. What had felt like love and a home had slowly turned into feeling more like yet another chain that didn't quite suit her, and perhaps it was her attempt to test her own decision that drove her to visit the Ashfall Waste, for the first time since she'd hatched. Confused and dismayed, Skylight ended up in a restaurant at a great bazaar, served quite delicious food by a talented chef.

There, she met Dalton, a dragon just as brilliantly blue as herself. His eyes, however, were the colour of darkness, and something sparked in them as she told him her tale.
"Light?" he said in the most soft, silken voice you could imagine, "My dear, did it ever strike you that behind every light lays a shadow? And nothing makes a shadow as graceful and enchanting as the dance of flames. You may have been born from such a fire, and been seduced perhaps by the rays of the Lightweaver, but I believe your heart might desire something darker. After all, you are no longer with your sweet Corin... do well, and listen to your heart. What does it say?"

And his words resonated so well with her, that she forgot all about Corin and the shivers of protectiveness she'd felt for him. It was just her, then, and this fellow traveller, whose words were fluid like a pleasant toxin, and whose voice she couldn't get enough of. They met again for several days, and at the end of it a nest of two eggs were laid, along with a new wish in Skylight's heart - the wish to serve the Shadowbinder.
  • She had now stumbled into yet another Fire lair. This was much smaller than the last. With it's simple lair decorations and modest size, it wasn't much to look at. But it seemed cozy enough. Sure she wasn't too fond of Fire, but she has Dalton with her this time, everything was going to be okay. She just knew it. Skylight met a few dragons in this new lair. The leader, a small frail fae was open and welcome to her. She learned many things, but she didn't stay long either. It just wasn't the best place for her.
  • Skylight and Dalton traveled on and arrived in to a Water lair. The leader of this very diverse clan welcomed them with open arms though only a few other members interacted with them. It was a rather comfortable lair to rest in, but they soon moved on.
  • Their travels brought them to a decent-sized Wind lair, the first Skylight had visited. The clan was friendly and, being a wind clan, many of the dragons loved wandering. They shared stories of lands far beyond their territory, some Skylight had yet to visit (though Dalton had seen most), and listened aptly to hers in return. After one telling of her story, a headstrong wildclaw gave her some advice - "If you want to go serve under the Shadowbinder directly, don't go rushing things. No matter if you make your decision now, or when you're a much older dragon, the end result will be the same - you'll still be able to serve Her. All some extra time's gonna do is make you more sure of your decision, and give you some cool experiences to boot."
  • They arrived at a large, but relatively empty Lighting lair next. It was the first time Skylight got to see such a busy clan. Someone was always up and moving or working, creating and building for their deity. Here she met the clan's spiritual mediator, Sehkmetir. He wasn't dressed like she thought someone spiritual would be dressed, but his calm and sure way of speaking soon gave way to her doubts. This dragon was touched by his deity and serving him with all his heart. "I respect everyone who wants to serve under different deities, just make sure it feels right for you and that you're doing it for the right reasons. My mother went to serve the Stormcatcher. She was ready to go and passed her knowledge to me before she went." The story touched Skylight and made her think. What deity would actually be right for her? Sehkmetir didn't look like a lightning dragon, but he was obviously happy serving his chosen deity.
While she and Dalton was here, they decided to split up for now. They wanted to explore different things in life, but promised to see each other again.
  • A short journey saw her back in the Southern Icefield where she was spotted by a dragon as blue as herself who introduced himself a Psuedarthrosis, Psueda for short. Originally from Light himself, Pseuda had moved to the Southern Icefield and had found a home when he was only young, and had been there ever since, spending time with a clan that he saw the foundation of. He was, he explained, one of the older members of the clan and assured her that the patriarch would be more than happy to welcome her and let her stay with them for as long as she pleased.
But the urge to keep moving became too strong once more and she parted with the clan on good terms before moving on again.

  • Skylight's travels brought her to another wind clan residing in the twisting crescendo. As the clan considered itself a "traveler's rest" of sorts, they were constantly growing and changing as dragons came and went on their journeys, but as a result it was yet another place where Skylight to could learn from all sorts of other dragons who'd been places she'd yet to visit, and gone through experiences she'd never had.

She was closest with a rather helpful Fae, who was all too keen on showing her around the clan's territory and getting her settled, and a more spazzy than usual Spiral, who was more than eager to show off his projects when she expressed even the slightest casual interest in them. After the time she'd spent in a Lightning clan, she was rather shocked to find out he wasn't from there with all the gizmos and gadgets that cluttered up his space.

During her rather lengthy stay, she ended up having children with both of them, two of whom ended up leaving the clan to serve the Windsinger. When Blu and Stormseeker first approached her about their decision, her own doubts and questions started to plauge her again, and it was very difficult for her to see them on with a smile on her face. But in the end, even if she still wasn't sure what her path in life would be, her youngest (at the time) son and daughter seemed quite happy by the choice they had made on their own, and who was she to question it?
  • Skylight's next stop was a week-long rest in the lush and tropical Viridian Labrinth. Here she was greeted by a snappish Mirror and a lackadaisical Fae, who introduced her to the rest of the rather eccentric group of individuals who made up the Aikka clan. Most notable to her however was the wide variety of views shared by the many dragons there in reference to the deities--they ranged from faithful worshipers to distrusting heathens. She had to wonder how any sane dragon could oppose the great Eleven!

As she came to know some of the members of the clan however, she learned that they had their reasons for their views on the Eleven. A distrustful Imperial told her the story of how his parents had left to serve the deities when he was still a pup, leaving him to fend for himself as a child; a cynical Spiral came from a fanatical clan that sacrificed its exaltees on an altar painted with blood, and told the story of how she had narrowly escaped this 'exalting' herself; and a chirpy Wildclaw told her the tale of how both her parents had been killed in the wars between the Eleven. Although it did not shake her own faith in the deities, it left her with many thoughts about the consequences of devoting her life to serving a god. As she left, the same lazy Fae who greeted her into the clan advised her that serving the deities was not always as glamorous as those from other clans make it out to be, and that if she really wanted to choose this path, she would do well to think carefully about what deity she would wish to serve--each deity had a different way of treating its disciples and the duties it gave its exaltees. Skylight thanked the Fae for its wisdom before leaving again for new lands, many questions weighing down on her mind.

  • Her time in the brain4puzzles lair was brief, but she got to battle in the Rainsong Jungle and gain 3 battle stones.
  • Since she was so near her original Light home, Skylight decided to go visit. She arrived at the Beacon to discover that the clan had recently moved to Lanternlea Port. After tracking them down there she began to grow extremely tired. Sure that all her traveling had finally caught up with her, she curled up to sleep next to her friends... and woke up five years later. Shocked at this strange turn of events, Skylight said a hasty farewell and left, determined to travel to someplace far away.
