Information
Name // Sorhley -- Origin of name // name. Anglicized version of Irish and Scottish Gaelic name Somhairle, meaning "summer wanderer". Role // Undead Marionette -- Description // Once, Sorhley was a living dragon. A creature of flesh and blood, a "real boy". But after being led into his own murder, mysterious forces saw fit to being him back once more. Now he staggers across the eternally dark wasteland of what should have been his resting place, bones pinned to cogs, skin stretched across a metal frame, ragged burlap lungs making a futile attempt at breath. Familiar // Wind-Up -- Role of familiar // Without the wind-up key in his back, Sorhley will die -- or, rather, the crude emulation of it, having already been deprived of life. He must remember to re-wind it every few hours. The key is what gives him energy and motion, and it is both his greatest source and most frustrating limitation of autonomy. |
History
The marionette who dances on lowly strings... As a child, the same song always haunted Sorhley in street corners and alleyways, and always in the same voices, too -- the town bullies who were content to use him as their whipping boy. Because Sorhley was a defenseless orphan, he was nothing more than a puppet to the bullies, a disposable thing to be toyed with and thrown away. Sorhley knew no other treatment, and could only believe their words. The torment continued long into his adulthood, when the bullies began pressuring him into running errands for them. Dangerous forests, shady drop-offs, and treacherous journeys were all fair game. Their final demand was for him to enter the Witching Wastes and stay there, alone, for a week. Sorhley barely made it two days. For the Hunter of the Witching Wastes found him, and that should have been that, if not for a meddling minor god. Instead, Sorhley's corpse was given a new, unnatural life -- a puppet he was, and a puppet he became. With strings around his limbs and a wind-up key in his back, Sorhley was forever left to wander the Wastes, searching for meaning, purpose, and hopefully, peace.
Personality
When he was alive, Sorhley was mild-mannered and meek, easy to push around. He knew his life was deeply unfair, and yet he had neither the words nor the backbone to make it otherwise. After his death and subsequent rebirth, Sorhley's mind is clouded with the pain of an in-between existence. He is neither alive nor dead, neither sentient nor inanimate. His state of being confuses him, makes him angry, and once again, he can do nothing about it. He is a stormy chamber of hurt and rage. It is bottled up tight, unable to be released, and still he holds his tongue. -- Likes // Warm light, cozy shelters, the stars -- Dislikes // Eye contact, the cold, the sound of singing |
Relationships
SKELTER
His end and his beginning -- the Hunter of the Witching Wastes. Strangely enough, Sorhley doesn't hold anything against Skelter. To him, killing is her nature, and it is nothing she can help. Instead, he is grateful for her merciful efficiency. No toying, no torture. Just the quick, clean cut of death, and the darkness that follows.
