Biography

Yen
Emissary of Light
Lawful Neutral

PkKAmaj.png
Among the dragons of Clan _______, there are few dragons as devoted to helping their clanmates as Yen. She views herself as the holy protector of all those around her. But Yen is not a servant of the Lightweaver — rather she is the servant of light itself. Her divine duty is to bring illumination to those in need, no matter how dangerous a task it is, or for what reason they need light.

She can often be found bringing candles to those trying to read at night.

Yen left her home in the Mirrorlight Promenade for a simple reason. It was already light there. She was not needed. Her duty would be to travel to the places farthest away from the Sunbeam Ruins and bring them the light of her flight, in convenient and easily portable form. It would be a long journey, but as the sun doesn't complain about hurtling through space forever, neither would she.

Additionally, she is pledged to purge the land of the Shade, viewing it as the antithesis of the light. While Yen's magic can temporarily banish it, candles have proved to be ineffective at keeping the Shade at bay.

She painted the runes upon her scales herself, in an astonishing display of contortion. They're in a rather archaic form of draconic, and really just consist of a massive list of praises to the light for all the things that it illuminates. Considering that such a list would include everything in existence, it's probably a good thing that Yen quickly ran out of her magic ink. Yen claims that they make her immune to every sort of dark magic, but the only proven effect they have is that they're constantly glowing.

One of her closest friends is Cress, who she often pesters to enchant various items to emit light. He created her chestplate, along with a number of other items that she keeps in her quarters. It's not recommended to enter her lair without sunglasses. Even if you're also a light dragon. Neither Cress nor Yen know the concept of restraint, so even if your innate magic enables you to stare directly at the sun, Yen's lair is worse.

Being located quite a ways into the fortress, the library requires an artificial source of light. Thus Yen can often be found there, supplying light for other dragons to read by. Unfortunately, not all dragons seem to understand that it's Yen's duty to bring them a light source, not to be their light source. While she does emit light, a fidgety spiral does not make an easy to use reading lamp.

Yen has a few flaws, one being that is that she is far too trusting. This is mostly because to get into Yen's good books, you just have to prefer daytime to nighttime. And even if you're a shadow dragon, you can just claim to prefer not stumbling around in the dark, and Yen will believe you.

One thing that other dragons (often Primacy) have to do is remind Yen to eat. She's convinced she's solar powered, and thus would normally only choose to eat at night. For her own good, Primacy does his best to come up with the most obtuse reasons why she needs to eat right now. Of course, Yen only eats because she feels pity for Primacy and his inability to come up with one good reason why she should eat. Unless he decided to bring some fireflies. She'll always eat fireflies.

Her current goal is to illuminate the basement. All of it. This is a surprisingly difficult challenge, as a lot of the fortress' depths don't see any use. This is partially because there's more than enough space already, and partially because there's probably something living down there. Or at the very least a large number of traps set by previous mages to ward away anyone who might walk into one of their less savoury experiments. This won't stop Yen though. She's requested a large number of glowing crystals from anyone capable of enchanting, and is working on attaching an irresponsible number of them to the walls. Progress is going well, and she's only had to flee in terror from a dark room twice.

Exalting Yen to the service of the Arcanist will remove them from your lair forever. They will leave behind a small sum of riches that they have accumulated. This action is irreversible.
